SAFETY WITH BIKES AROUND SCHOOL

bike.png

This week our school was contacted about a concern with students riding bikes at speed on shared footpaths in the MacKillop and St Peter's schools area. It is wonderful that students are being active through riding bikes to and from school, but we also need to ensure they clearly understand how to do this safely for themselves and others. We will be speaking with all students about travel safety around school and ask that parents of students who ride bikes to school have a conversation about this one on one at home. We have added some resources below to assist families with their children.

Know the Road Rules:

Practice safe riding habits and reinforce the importance of following road rules, including:

  • riding on the left side of footpaths.
  • giving pedestrians the right of way on footpaths.
  • watching for cars entering or leaving driveways.
  • dismounting when crossing intersections, pedestrian crossings.

Shared Paths:

Shared paths can be used by bicycle riders and pedestrians, as well as wheeled toys and recreational devices such as push scooters.

When Riding On A Shared Path, you must:

  • Keep to the left (unless it's impractical to do so).
  • Give way to pedestrians including wheeled recreational devices and toys. You should always slow down and stop if necessary.
  • Keep to the left of any oncoming bicycle rider.

Help Make Paths Safer For Everyone By:

  • giving pedestrians a metre of space when passing.
  • using your bell to warn others when you're approaching.
  • moving off the path to the left if you wish to stop riding and if there's room.
  • being careful around young children and dogs, as they’re often unpredictable, and older pedestrians who may be more vulnerable to injury.
  • travelling at a safe speed so you can stop within a safe distance of pedestrians on the path.

CONFIRMATION RETREAT - YEAR 3

All of Year 3 joined in our Confirmation Retreat on Monday, helping our Confirmation candidates prepare for their sacrament, which was held on Tuesday and Thursday this week. Thank you to our Year 10 Youth Ministry friends who came over to help us run the day!

Youth Club continues to thrive at St Peter's, with over 23 Year 5 and 6 students joining Zac and Mrs Cameron in the Chapel for fun and faith last Monday! Youth Club is held every Monday at Lunch 1 for students in Years 5 and 6. Meet Mrs Cameron at the gate after eating.

SCHOOL COMMUNITY GROUP (SCG)

Parent_Community_Group_T4_2025_1_.jpg

The SCG is a welcoming way for families to be involved in school life. Open to all parents and carers, the group meets once a term to share updates, provide feedback, and strengthen the connection between home, school, and parish.

Meetings will vary in time each Term to suit family schedules and include a short 5-minute parent learning session. To keep discussions focused, agenda items must be submitted beforehand.

This year, the SCG will gather feedback on St Peter’s events and form a parent team to support the “delay smartphones until age 16” initiative. Every parent’s voice matters—please add your agenda items via the Google document below.

TELL THEM FROM ME PARENT SURVEY

YOUR FEEDBACK MATTERS

Thank you to all the 150 parents and carers who took part in our recent Tell Them From Me survey. Your honest feedback is invaluable in helping us improve our school community. Each week this term we will share some feedback from the data collated.

PARENTING A CHILD WITH ADHD

Children with ADHD are often extra sensitive and can easily pick up on the stresses happening at home. That’s why it’s so important to create a sense of security—through calm routines, reassurance, and consistent support. When children feel safe and grounded, it helps reduce their stress, improves focus, and gives them the stability they need to thrive. Check out this 30second video below:

MATHS ENRICHMENT

YEAR 5 - FRACTURED FAIRY TALE PERFORMANCE

DELIGHTS KINDERGARTEN AND PARENTS

Year 5 students treated their parents and Kindergarten to a wonderfully imaginative fractured fairy tale performance. The students impressed their audiences with their fantastic puppets, cleverly written scripts and wonderful backdrops. It was great to see the younger children engaged and the parents thoroughly entertained by our  Year 5 puppeteers.
