On Tuesday, staff and students excitedly welcomed highly acclaimed children’s authors, Kate and Jol Temple, to St Peter’s.
Each session was jam-packed with captivating stories, humour and creative energy as well as the odd inflatable bin chicken, pair of catapulting underpants and arm wrestling session for students to engage with. Kate and Jol also provided many tips, tricks and ideas to inspire our students with their own story writing and there were lots of opportunities for students to interact and ask questions throughout the day.
The joy and excitement expressed by the children was a pleasure to witness and it has been wonderful to see Kate and Jol’s books flying off the library shelves since their visit. We also had a number of students awarded a signed Kate and Jol Temple book following their entry into last week’s “Who Would Win: Bin Chicken vs Bush Turkey” competition. With only 9 votes difference, the overall winner from the library votes was….the “Bin Chicken”!

TERM 3 BOOK WEEK CELEBRATIONS
Book Week Parade - Tuesday 19th August !!
Next Term our Book Week Parade will take place in Week 5 on the morning of Tuesday 19th August. The official theme this year is “Book an Adventure”. Children are encouraged to share their love of books and reading by dressing as their favourite storybook character for the parade.
Online Book Fair
During Term 3 we will be holding an online “Book Fair” whereby families will be able to purchase a book via Flexi-Schools to donate to our St Peter’s library. Students will have a commemorative sticker placed inside the cover of any purchases to recognise their donations and those students will be given the first opportunity to borrow their donated titles.
Book Week Book Packs
In celebration of Book Week, students will also have the opportunity to pre-purchase a $5 “book pack” during Term 3 which will include the following:
- Choice of a new book from a range of grade-appropriate titles;
- Entry into our book week raffle to win one of seven amazing, “book-themed” prize-packs (winners to be announced during our book week parade); and
- A donation to a charitable cause/organisation.
More details regarding our book week celebrations, including how to participate in our “Book Fair” and purchase the aforementioned “Book Packs” will be provided next Term.
NSW PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE
A friendly reminder that there is now over 2 months until the Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) closes and the holidays are a perfect time for students to catch up on some reading to add to their online reading records. All participants must have their online student reading records completed by 11:59pm on Friday 19th September so that validation can occur. Only students who have a completed and validated reading record will receive a PRC certificate.

ACEN DIGITAL LIBRARY AND SORA APP
Looking for something to keep the kids occupied in the school holidays? Why not access our online digital library for some exciting reads or even an audio book which is perfect for those long car trips!
In addition to our well-stocked school library, students at St Peter’s also have access to many fantastic titles through our digital library.
Students can access this service either:
- via the St Peter's Student Page when using a desktop or laptop computer by selecting the student’s grade followed by the “Sora - Digital Library” link; or
- by installing the “Sora” app to utilise these resources via mobile devices such as smartphones, I-pads and tablets.
