P&F PROVIDE HELPFUL FEEDBACK
A good roll up of families attended our 3rd P&F meeting for 2021.
After the principal’s report there was very encouraging feedback provided from families regarding the Mother’s Day activities and 200 year celebration of Catholic education held recently at school. Families recently appreciated the opportunities to be invited back to school and really enjoyed engaging in activities with their children as well as co-celebrating Catholic Schools Week and Mother's Day.
There was also appreciative feedback provided from families who responded to an invitation to come along to watch the progress of the band.
There was a positive sentiment throughout the meeting reflecting the relaxation of restrictions and the return to a much more ‘connected’ community.
The meeting was also unanimous in support of the following developments for this year:
- Support of the possibility of online reporting beginning Semester 1 this year
- The return to elective sports during term 3 with attractive options at school to provide choice
- Constructing a fun occasion where bringing families together is the major motive. After some engaging discussion, it was decided to confirm the event at the next meeting of June 16.
We thank our families for contributing constructive feedback and your enthusiasm to support the engagement of our families.
PARENT ASSEMBLY CONFERENCE
The Parent Assembly Conference will take place on Saturday and Sunday, May 22 and 23.
This is a very worthwhile opportunity to stop and take time to reflect and review our relationship with God, our family and the world.
MANAGING NAPLAN
Some system based technical issues online created some challenging circumstances for our teachers and children during the sitting of NAPLAN this week.
Though there is a heightened sense of anticipation and associated nervousness in sitting NAPLAN assessments, teachers and children showed a very positive attitude and capability in managing the difficulties and then getting on with the job when it was possible.
HELPFUL REMINDERS FOR VISITORS
We are very excited to be able to welcome families into our school and enjoyed seeing so many parents, carers and grandparents visit for the recent Catholic Schools Week and Mother's Day celebrations.
A few reminders..
When entering school grounds, all visitors must sign in via the Kiosk in the office or using QR codes located outside. Visitors are required to sign in and wear a Visitors Badge for a few important reasons-
- as part of our COVID Safety Plan all visitors must sign in and acknowledge the COVID statements (ie not travelled to any hotspots or unwell etc) prior to entering school grounds.
- a Child Protection directive in which all persons entering our school grounds must be identified and signed in.
- in the event of an Emergency Evacuation all persons on site will need to be accounted for. Signing in and signing out assists with this.
Once signing in is complete, visitors will receive a Visitors Badge which must be worn at all times when on school grounds. Staff may approach anyone not wearing a Visitors Badge and ask them to return to the office to sign in.
The only exemption to signing in is for parents/carers dropping off in the morning and picking up in the afernoon at which time parents/carers must remain in the 'Green Zone' (grass area between Kinder and Year 1) If you wish to go past this area or visit classrooms you must sign in and put on a Visitors Badge.
The QR code signing in process is easy and quick...
Here are a few handy hints...
Use your camera to scan the QR code - this will prompt you to click on the 'sign in' site. NB This is NOT the Service NSW app.
Enter your name, mobile number, acknowledge the 3 COVID statements, click proceed and lastly, click acknowledge to receive the Welcome to St Peter's ' message.
Thank you for visiting our school and don't forget
to SIGN OUT when leaving the school grounds.
MISSION
St Peter’s Junior Ministry Team
Today Mrs Cameron met with some Year 6 students interested in being part of a Junior Ministry Team. This team will meet on Fridays at Lunch 1 playtime and will be facilitated by Ella Ippaviz and Juliet Eyles, the Youth Ministry Officers from MacKillop College. The team will meet together to develop ministry and leadership skills, their own relationship with God and each other, as well as to have some fun! Throughout the year the team will have the opportunity to minister to their younger peers, as well as to go out into the community in service. Membership is open to anyone in Year 6, but commitment to attending the Friday meetings is an expectation. We look forward to the opportunity of working together in Mission!
The Ascension of the Lord
This Sunday we celebrate the feast of the Ascension of the Lord. This is a time in the liturgical year when we celebrate Jesus’ ascension into Heaven, forty days after his Resurrection. It is an important Christian feast that acknowledges the reality of the God-Man Jesus Christ returning to the Father. The Ascension is the final component of the paschal mystery, which consists also of Jesus' Passion, Crucifixion, Death, Burial, Descent Among the Dead, and Resurrection. Along with the resurrection, the ascension functioned as a proof of Jesus' claim that he was the Messiah. The Ascension is also the event whereby humanity was taken into heaven.
Prayer for the Ascension
Dear Lord Jesus Christ,
right before your Ascension into heaven you told your apostles to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth upon receiving the Holy Spirit.
May I be similarly inspired to spread your Gospel message in word and deed, according to your will for me.
And may I do so prudently and joyfully, with your help, your guidance, and your grace!
And remembering this glorious event, help me to seek what is above, Heaven, where you are seated at the right hand of God the Father!
“Do all you can to preach the gospel and if necessary, use words!”

LEARNING
IMPROVING STUDENT WRITING - Creating Paths to Success!
Student writing is well and truly in the spotlight in 2021, with St Peter’s staff and students developing skills in Imaginative, Persuasive and Informative writing.
Teachers have been working hard to engage students in their learning about writing by explicitly teaching ‘What great writers do’ and setting clear learning intentions and pathways for students to achieve success in writing. We call this the ‘Success Criteria’.
Above you can see a group of students who are guided by their teacher to explore what great writers do with words, sentences and whole texts. These students are developing their Success Criteria under the watchful eye of their teacher. Students’ understanding of what they are learning, why they are learning, and how to achieve success are key to improvement.
When students understand the Success Criteria and the expectations therein, we see marked improvements in student Writing.

All visitors must stay on the basketball court area and not rove around the track or onto the main oval space. We will have a couple of staff members to assist you to sign in and I will remind all visitors throughout the day.

St Agnes' Parish - Flood Relief
Parish Flood relief focuses on getting displaced people back into their homes
The Parish flood relief effort has expanded and is focusing on getting people displaced by the floods back into their homes. Our priority is working with vulnerable people who do not have other housing options, andwhose property was uninsured.
With the help of local businesses and tradespeople, the Parish led by Peter Johnson, is working closely to ensure the rebuilding program is completed as quickly and efficiently as possible, whilst respecting the dignity and needs of the people involved.
These photos were taken at Riverside Retirement Village on Tuesday 11 May - as you can see there is still a lot of work to be done to help people get back to their homes. Peter Johnson, parishioner and employee of the Parish, (pictured here with Shane, one of the residents) has been the face of the Parish to many people displaced by the floods, visiting them and ensuring the re-building process keeps moving in the right direction.

SOCIAL JUSTICE AND ENVIRONMENT LEADERS EDUCATE SCHOOL
St Peter's Social Justice and Environment Leaders are spreading the word about coltan that is currently being mined in the Congo, and the impact that this mining has on both the natural environment and on the lives of the children living there.
We can support the Congolese people and the beautiful fauna and flora surrounding the Congo River through recycling of old electronic devices. The Social Justice and Environmental Leaders have set up the recycling program to support this most worthy need. Collection boxes are located in each classroom for children to bring in their old devices.
Please watch the following informative Power Point from our
Social Justice and Enviroment Leaders.

Positive Behaviour Support - PBS
PBS Focus-Keeping Ourselves Safe
This fortnight our PBS focus has been on ‘Keeping Safe’. In our learning spaces, students have been reminded about the importance of personal safety.
We discussed:
-How we know when we are feeling safe
-Things that might tell us that we are in an unsafe situation
-The concept of ‘Tricky People’ and rules to follow if we were to encounter a ‘Tricky Person’
-Family passwords and code words
-The ‘NO-GO-TELL’ Strategy
It’s always beneficial to have family discussions around these concepts, so that our children are equipped with the skills and knowledge to keep themselves and others safe. We encourage you to speak with your children about their learning around this topic.
