OUR LOVE AND PRAYERS TO JAKE AND HIS FAMILY
On Wednesday, our broader community came together to celebrate the outstanding life of Jake Spurdle, a 2017 Year 6 student, of St Peter’s.
Jake though diagnosed with a very serious cancer continued to show great courage and spirit, selflessness and a wonderful energy as he faced one of the most challenging paths that a young man could confront.
Vale Jake Spurdle: A life of courage and love
Jake Spurdle, a Year 10 student at MacKillop College, died peacefully at his home in Lighthouse Beach on Friday April 23 after a courageous 16-month battle with Osteosarcoma, an aggressive form of bone cancer.
Much loved by his family and his community, Jake was a fine young man, whose positive mindset always brought out the best in others.
Please keep his mum (Nyky), his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this sad time. The community gathered to celebrate Jake's life at a Requiem Mass at St Agnes Catholic Church at 2pm on Wednesday 28 April. Jake was an avid South Sydney Rabbitohs supporter so everyone wore red and green in his honour. |

'LOVE YOU MUM'
It doesn’t matter how many times we say it or mum hears it – it never loses a shade of its worth from either sender or receiver.
However, next Friday and Sunday we stop and take some special moments to consider why the above statement is one of the most important things we will ever say.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents Kate Perkins, Kaylie Davis and Peta Clancy for their very generous energy and expertise in coordinating our Mother’s Day stall. We really appreciate your support of our children and families.
P&F MEETING RE- SCHEDULED
I apologise for the recent rescheduling of our April P&F meeting.
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, May 12 at 6 pm in the staffroom.
This will count as our April/May meeting. We welcome families to this important get together to consider what we would like to create to support our school-family connection or a possible fundraising venture or, a mix of both.
MISSION
Catholic Schools Week - Faith in the Future :
This week, Catholic schools across the Diocese of Lismore celebrated Catholic Schools Week. This year marks 200 years of Catholic education in Australia, and the theme for CSW 2021 is Faith in the Future. On Tuesday, the students in Year 6 from all three Parish primary schools celebrated Mass together at St Agnes’ Church, followed by a picnic lunch in the grounds and some fun and energetic activities run by the Youth Ministry Officers from MacKillop, Newman and St Joseph’s Regional colleges. Much enjoyment was had by all and the students had an early opportunity to meet their peers going into MacKillop and St Joseph’s Regional Colleges in 2022. A huge thank you to all the accompanying staff and to the YMO’s and Fr Paul for making this day possible.
Some of our St Peter’s parents and friends were able to celebrate Catholic Schools Week with us today, with a prayer service in the Don Farrell Hall followed by some time spent in the classrooms. We love any opportunity to invite our parents and friends into our school, and are so grateful that COVID restrictions have eased enough for us to start sharing these occasions again.
