P&F MEETING NEXT WEDNESDAY EVENING
Our April P&F meeting scheduled for last Wednesday will now be held this Wednesday, April 28.
The meeting will look at drawing some family ideas on an event that may either support family/school connection, fundraising, social justice or combinations of some or all.
Look really forward to seeing some new faces and mixing with our dedicated families who continually support P&F meetings.
WELCOME ADDITIONAL STAFF
We welcome additional staff to our team for the remainder of the year.
Jessica Alley - Jess joins our Year 2 team and becomes a third teacher in their space from Monday – Thursday. Jess has already established a cohesive relationship with Michelle Lawler, Sim Morris and Natalie Stewart in planning and facilitating learning in Year 2 this year.
Sharni Geary - Sharni joins Amanda Thomas in 4 Green working on Monday, whilst Amanda will retain the class teacher role from Tuesday – Thursday. Sharni has a great understanding of this cohort as she was on the Year 3 team last year.
Leisa Merrick - Leisa will add Thursdays to her current Monday – Wednesday role in additional needs.
Leisa has been a significant contributor to our response to intervention and her input has been valued greatly from our additional needs team and our classroom teachers.
ANZAC COMMEMORATION - A LITTLE DIFFERENT BUT RETAINING GREAT COMMUNITY SPIRIT
Anzac Day is this Sunday, April 25
The Anzac Day commemoration, though modified, will continue to hold a very significant place during 2021.
There will be no Dawn Service and numbers are limited to 600 at the main Service at Town Square with no standing allowed in the blocked off area (car park).
The March will be limited to 500 people which will involve veterans only.
Our school will be involved with many other community organisations in placing a wreath at the Commemorative service commencing at 10:30 am.
We have invited Marley Thick and Jack Robb (School captains) to represent our school. Jack has been selected to be our representative within the blocked off area and will place our wreath at the Memorial.
St Peter’s will participate in our own Commemoration, recognising the great sacrifice of our services on Monday morning at 10:15 am in classrooms (families most welcome – please sign in and out with QR code - via the office).
FORTY VISITORS CHECKING IN FOR A VIEW TO KINDER ‘22
We had over 40 visitors on Thursday afternoon of this week visiting St Peter’s to gain an idea of what St Peter’s has to offer in supporting children’s early education.
It is a big decision for families to consider and it is important that families are well informed and feeling confident that the school environment will work in partnership with the ideals and values parents are already nurturing within their families.
It was great to be able to provide answers to very important questions that will help families make informed and confident decisions.
SHREK THE MUSICAL JR.
Perhaps you had a chance over the holidays to check out the most recent 'Gotyaback Production' performance at Panthers – Shrek the Musical.
If you did… you may have recognised a number of familiar St Peter’s faces. Billed as a family – friendly musical comedy following the adventures of a beloved ogre, Shrek, valiantly considering and planning how he might save a beautiful princess from a fire–breathing dragon.
Some of our senior girls (photo below) assumed varied roles within the production. Reviews were extremely positive and the enjoyment expressed through the girls gave a wonderful endorsement of the benefits of engaging in the arts. Audiences were particularly enthusiastic after such a long time of limited exposure in live production.
Congratulations and well done to our senior students
Pip Eakin, Edie Porter, Layla Fel, Leila Castles, Lily Rowlatt, Poppi Maltman
Grace Dahlenburg, Paige Goldie, Marley Thick, Samantha Carr
YEAR 6 SPORT SHIRTS
Year 6 received their new sport shirts this week and they look amazing !!
ASSEMBLIES MOVE TO ODD WEEKS
This term our Friday Assemblies will be held on odd weeks, beginning this week (week 1).
The change will assist our Year 6 schedules.
We really look forward to welcoming families to either of our Assemblies on Monday morning at 8:45am or on Friday afternoon at 2:20pm.
Please remember to QR code in.
TOILETS - TO TAKE A TURN
Many areas of our school has been renovated or updated over recent years, however our toilets have retained their original state, except for painting.
Recently we have received a funding application that will provide us nearly $200,000 to modify and renovate our toilet blocks.
This will provide a significant injection to modernise and provide appealing environments.
We will encourage family input to the planning and establishing of the new environments. If anyone has any ideas or an interest in this area, please let the office know.
Updates will occur through following newsletters.
Statement of Intent: Our Shared Commitment
The role of schools in strengthening children and young people’s understanding of consent, and preventing and responding to sexual assault and sexual violence among young people.
A Statement of Intent was signed on Friday, 26 March 2021 by the Government, Catholic and Independent Schools to strengthen school-aged children and young people’s ability to form healthy relationships, understanding of consent and harm prevention. The Statement acknowledges the key role of school staff, in partnership with families, in supporting change.
This Statement is our system commitment, which recognises the innate dignity of the child and young person and their inherent goodness, ‘to enable each to achieve the fullness of life’. The Statement acknowledges the key role of school staff, in partnership with families, in supporting children and young people to reach their full potential by strengthening their ability to form healthy relationships, understand consent and harm prevention.
As a system of Catholic schools, we recognise our duties and responsibilities as educators and the growing concerns in the community in this area. We believe that each person is made in the image and likeness of God and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect regardless of race, gender, religion or ethnicity.
At St Peter’s, we believe in delivering a robust curriculum across stages. Healthy relationships and harm prevention are in the following PDHPE units-
Kindergarten - Positive Safe Choices
Year 1 - Changing and Growing & I’m Responsible for Me
Year 2 - Relationships Rock & Safety Supporters
Year 3 - Changes & Personal Safety
Year 4 - Influencing
Year 5 - You, Me Us & Times Are Changing
Year 6 - Ch..Ch..Changing
The voice of parents and carers are valuable as the first and continuing educators of their children. We encourage families to complete a survey to support our future direction in driving cultural change around respectful relationships.
The survey is open until Friday, 7 May.
If you have any questions please email the school at pmacp@lism.catholic.edu.au and a school leadership member will contact you.
First Aid
Last Monday St Peter's Staff Development Day was focussed on First Aid Training. The program was run by John Henry Institute (JHI). Thank you to facilitators Sally Moriarty, Karen Crombie and Jacquie Picker and to Nicole Finch, Tanya Slavin and Tracey Peisley for their assistance .
MISSION
Prayer for return to school
Easter - Rejoice the Risen Lord!
Our term began on Tuesday morning with an Easter prayer celebration presented by Year 6, celebrating the risen Lord. Long after the Easter long weekend, when friends and family have gone home and the last easter egg has been enjoyed, we are still celebrating Easter, the most holy and significant celebration of the liturgical year. In fact, Easter is celebrated for 50 days, spanning from Easter Sunday to Pentecost Sunday. These fifty days are celebrated in joyful exultation as one feast day, or, as one “great Sunday”. These above all others are the days for praising the Lord, through the singing of the Alleluia.
Penance - Save the date!
New dates for the Sacrament of Penance have been planned, with a google form shared to the families of candidates via email to register for one of the evenings. Please note that each evening has a limit of around 53 candidates, so candidates are advised to get in early to reserve their preferred date.
The dates for the ceremonies are Tuesday 25th May, Wednesday 26th May, Wednesday 2nd June and Thursday 3rd June, commencing at 6.00pm (please arrive at 5.30pm to enable COVID check in and seating).
Due to COVID and social distancing requirements placed on churches, it is still necessary to restrict the numbers attending our Penance ceremonies to the following - 2 parents/carers of the candidate and any siblings under 12 years of age that need to attend.
Should you have any further questions, please contact Peta Rourke at Parish, or phone the school.
Prayer for ANZAC Day!
We bring our thanks this day for the peace and security we enjoy, which was won for us through the courage and devotion of those who gave their lives in time of war.
We pray that their labour and sacrifice may not be in vain, but that their spirit may live on in us and in generations to come.
We pray that the liberty, truth and justice which they sought to preserve may be seen and known in all the nations upon earth.
This we pray in the name of the one who gave his life for the sake of the world,
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
LEARNING
Science Design Task
Last Term Year 4 students’ task in science was to design a cost-effective watering system that would deliver a steady supply of water to the herb gardens over the two-week Easter break.
Some things that needed to be taken into consideration were:
- The watering system couldn’t be refilled from tap water once it was set up
- A commitment to recycling, reusing and reducing waste wherever possible
- Limited funds were available to invest in the project.
Students were very excited to see how their plants fared over the holidays and if their watering system was effective.
Buses Flashing Light Campaign
The bus flashing light campaign runs from Sunday 18 April to Friday 30 April 2021. According to Transport NSW, research has highlighted a need to increase motorists’ awareness and compliance with road rules around bus flashing lights.
A reminder that drivers must slow down to 40Km/h when bus lights are flashing as it is indicating that the bus is picking up and dropping off students.

Passion Personified!
Mr Post was at his very best during the week motivating students in readiness for the Lismore Diocesan Rugby Union in June. This event provides a pathway, where the winner will travel to Sydney for the CSNSW Final at St Joseph’s Hunters Hill. Mr Post had his initial meeting with the squad this week, but Mr Post being Mr Post, turned it into an indoor training session. A note went home yesterday informing students of the pathway. Thanks Mr Post for your wonderful passion and commitment to the students.

Thank you from St Agnes' Parish
THANK YOU FROM ST AGNES’ CATHOLIC PARISH
On behalf of Fr Paul and St Agnes’ Catholic Parish, I would like to sincerely thank the school community for the incredibly generous donations to the Parish Pop Up Pantry.
The Parish is liaising with over 60 local families affected by the floods, as well as many others from the wider community who drop into the Pop-up Pantry, to support their recovery.
Many who have lost some, or all, of their possessions, cars, homes, treasured mementoes are unable to return to work until the clean-up is complete and their homes are liveable again.
The assistance given ranges from providing shopping vouchers, shoes, hampers, groceries, cleaning supplies to school fees assistance, transport, and accommodation.
The Parish is also providing practical support to the affected residents of Riverside Village, Edgewater Caravan Park and Brigadoon Caravan Park.
The Pop Up Pantry would not exist without the generous donations from our schools and parishioners.
This all happened in the last week of term, so it was amazing to see the tremendous support we were given.
Great work staff, students, and families.
THANK YOU
Anne O’Brien
