TEAM GREETINGS
The 'Greeting Team' at the morning entry gate has become quite popular and a number of our students are now joining in to assist staff.
It is so nice for some of our students to join Mrs Cameron, Katie Files and occasional other staff members on the morning gate to welcome children and families back into St Peter’s at the beginning of the day.
We now have a number of children who join the staff to say hello and share a lovely warm smile to those entering the school.
A good start can make a marked difference to the course of the day and we are very thankful to Mrs Cameron, Katie Files and supporting staff and children that see this important role as part of their mission to help others.
SLIGHT CHANGE TO RECENT COMMUNICATION AT PICK UP TIME
In Monday‘s email communication to families there was a request for families during pick up, to remain under the Basketball Court until 3 pm before moving off to classroom spaces to collect primary students.
After revision this week, we are inviting parents to move directly to the Year 3, 4, 5 (on the steps at the bottom end of the basketball court) and 6 spaces to wait for children to be dismissed.
This will help decongest the Basketball Court where Buslines are required to assemble.
So good to have parents coming back into schools.
Parents are now also welcome to make interviews with teachers and come into their learning spaces to meet.
The constant casual contact between families and staff will help provide consistency in communication around our little people.
Following are some great pictures of our families returning to St Peter’s.
JUNKYARD BEATS PRESENTS THE BOX SHOW
This Thursday our Years 2, 3 and 4 students will delve into a cultural experience at The Glasshouse, when a wonderful message is presented through a very creative and entertaining presentation.
‘Learn about sustainability with this high energy, imaginative music-in-education performance combining drumming, dance, theatre and comedy.'
In the hands of Junkyard Beats, ordinary household items are transformed into extraordinary musical instruments and unwanted junk comes alive in exciting and surprising ways!
The Box Show excites the imagination of students and teachers alike. The presentation follows four characters during their daily activities in a world made of cardboard boxes and junk. The contents of an abandoned kitchen and wheelie bins become the greatest drum set in the world; Plastic bags are an amazing musical instrument and the human body becomes a unique sound machine.
Children will travel by bus to The Glasshouse leaving school at approx. 10 am and returning to school at 12 noon.
BALD AND BEAUTIFUL
Pippa Hudson, Eli Hudson, Peter Field, Peter Duffy, Ruby Merritt and Ella Oliver have all offered their beautiful locks in the plight to overcome cancer this weekend.
Our 'Bald and Beautiful' children will follow up the quest on the weekend with a Lolly Jar Guessing Competition on Monday at lunch 1 and 2.
One guess – $1; three guesses – $2.
The winner will be drawn at assembly next Friday.
Congratulations kids and thank you for your wonderful efforts in supporting such a strong need within our community.
One last glance at these beautiful heads of hair!!

MISSION
COLOURS for Caritas - next Wednesday!
One of our favourite dates in the school calendar is coming up next Wednesday: Colours for Caritas! For those that don’t know, Colours for Caritas is our major fundraising initiative for Project Compassion and is fully planned and facilitated by our wonderful Year 6 Social Justice leaders with the help of all Year 6 students. The day is filled with colour and fun, with a variety of stalls and activities planned. Students are invited to come to school in the most colourful clothes they can find (enclosed shoes and sun safe tops/shirts please). Students are asked to bring along a gold coin donation for being out of uniform, as well as some pocket money to spend at the various stalls and activities. All money raised will go to Caritas to support people around the world who are less fortunate.

Sacrament of Penance
Next Wednesday will certainly be a very busy day for our Year 4 and 5 students! The students making their Sacrament of Penance will be travelling by bus to St Agnes’ Church at 8.45am for a practice. It is important for these students to arrive at school on time as the bus will be leaving straight after the morning bell.
Later in the day, after the Colours for Caritas festivities, all students in Years 4 and 5 will be participating in a penance reflection afternoon in the Don Farrell Hall. The Year 9 Youth Ministry Class from MacKillop will be coming across to share their experiences of the Sacrament of Penance and how God’s forgiveness has helped them in their lives. Please keep all of these young people in your prayers so that they may experience the restoring love of our Lord Jesus Christ.

LEARNING
Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM)
STEM lessons in schools focus on real-world issues and problems. STEM learning addresses real social, economic and environmental problems and encourages solutions to them.
Yesterday, Year 2 did a STEM challenge as part of their Science unit. They investigated what type of pier would best support a bridge. They predicted and tested and after the investigation, they concluded that cylinder shaped piers are the strongest support. We are very proud of our young scientists and we encourage you to talk to your child about what they do in Science.
MATHS ASSESSMENT INTERVIEW (MAI) PARENT LETTERS
To begin the 2021 school year, all students were assessed in Mathematics in the areas of Counting, Place Value, Addition and Subtraction as well as Multiplication and Division. Today all students will have a letter in their school bags. The letter contains information on some strategies that can be employed at home and with homework, to help develop your child’s Mathematical Skills and knowledge. If you have any questions regarding the letter, please contact your child's class teacher.

Rain, rain go away!
On Wednesday March 10, our Cross Country was postponed due to wet weather. We also felt that in light of the changes to COVID-19, we wanted to give families more lead time, so they could attend the carnival and experience first hand the joy and excitement of sport at St Peter’s.
The Lismore Diocese Winter Sports Trials were also postponed this Friday, and have clashed with our back up date of Friday March 19. Through the wonderful support of Erin Denham at Mackillop Jnr, we have been able to secure a couple of new dates.
CROSS COUNTRY NEW DATE: Tuesday, March 16, 2021
Changes to event times:
Events will run approximately to the following times:
9:25am- Yr 2- 8 year Girls/Boys (500m)
9:45am - Kinder Race-Girls/Boys (250m)
10:00am- Year 1 Race - Girls/Boys (500m)
12:15 pm - 9yrs Race- Girls/Boys (1.5km)
12:30pm- 10yrs - Girls/Boys (2km)
12:50pm – 11yrs Race - Girls/Boys (3km)
1:10pm- 12yrs and over Race - Girls/Boys (3km)
If wet, children need to bring old clothes, joggers to run in and a towel. If we need to postpone the carnival due to weather conditions, we will advise asap via our St Peter's Facebook Page
In terms of families attending the event, we welcome you back and we can’t wait to see you. It is vital that we all follow the below steps to ensure we have a COVID Safe event:
- You will be required to use your mobile phone and scan a COVID safe QR code outside the entrance of the office.
- Once you have registered, you will enter the office and be identified by staff and given a visitors pass.
- You will then walk directly to the oval and make your way into a family area (in the middle of the oval. Please bring an umbrella if wet weather is forecasted.)
- Your child/ children will come down to the oval at their designated time and run. They will then return to their class after their race.
- Families will then need to sign out once their child has run.
- There will be no early marks for students on the day (unless it is a prior booked appointment).
- If you have children in the early races (9am to 10:20am) and then 12:15pm onwards, you will need to sign out of the school and then return to watch your child or children. You will then follow steps 1-5 again on returning.
If Tuesday, March 16 is washed out, we move to Wednesday, March 24. Revised event times may occur. If Wednesday, March 24 is washed out, we will need to run 9yrs - 12yrs somehow before the end of term as Zone Cross Country is in Term 2 Week 1. We will try to give you as much lead time as possible if we need to go to a 3rd backup date.
Rain and more rain
The Lismore Diocese Winter Sports Trials have been postponed due to wet weather. The backup date is Friday March 19.
Netballers hit the courts
We have two netball teams competing at the All Schools Netball Carnival this Wednesday in Port Macquarie. A big thank you to Miss McKenzie and Miss Dal Santo for supporting the girls. Also, a big thank you to a number of MacKillop Junior College students who will be assisting us on the day with umpiring: Grace Dawson, Brianna Moloney, Makayla Mott, Josie Boys, Sienna Mathieson, Macey Lewis, Abbey Dingle and Jorja Myers.
League Training
Year 3 and 4 will continue to train on Wednesdays at 1st lunch and Years 5 and 6 will continue to train on Fridays at 1st lunch. If your child has registered, please ensure they have a mouthguard and a spare shirt or jumper to train in. We now have 74 students registered! A huge thank you to Mr Leary for giving these students the opportunity to play.

School Scrunchies-Calling those with sewing skills!
As a new reward to our Vivo Prize System, the students have expressed interest in being able to purchase school coloured scrunchies (to match the summer or winter uniform, but particularly the green and white check pattern) from the online Vivo Store.
Are there any sewers out there, who would be willing to make some of these?
Please get in touch with the PBS Team through the office if you would like to help out.
Thanks very much.

Have you ever wanted to do an on-line faith-based course that is of good quality, time convenient and cost effective, and didn’t know where to go?
Recently, the Lismore Diocese, along with over 100 dioceses world-wide including four others in Australia, entered into a partnership with the Virtual Learning Community for Faith Formation (VLCFF) at the University of Dayton. This gives everyone within the Lismore Diocese, whether school parent, parishioner, volunteer or paid worker, access to over 100 good quality on-line courses, which are time convenient and cost effective.
If you are wanting to do a course of your choosing and interest, in only three to five weeks, at a cost of approximately $A65, in leadership, catechesis, Catholic doctrine, church history, ecclesiology, ministry, Marian studies, liturgy, sacraments, prayer, morality, scripture, social justice, special needs, spirituality, youth ministry or other annual topics, then visit the VLCFF page through the Our Faith tab of the St Agnes’ Catholic Parish Port Macquarie website for further information.
See the Adult Faith Formation Information Flyer for more information or to discuss options, please contact Tony Worner, VLCFF.LismoreDiocese@stagnesparish.org.au

Leukaemia Foundation World’s Greatest Shave
Please support St Peter's parent, Toni Menjivar!
Toni Menjivar is on a mission to shave the world from blood cancer and she needs YOUR HELP!
This Saturday 13th March I will be taking part in the Leukaemia Foundations World's Greatest Shave and will be sacrificing my locks to help Aussie families facing blood cancer.
Will you step up and sponsor me as I take on World's Greatest Shave?
Your donation will provide families facing blood cancer with the special care they need to make it through every scary, uncertain moment that follows a diagnosis.
It will also help brilliant research scientists continue their search for better ways to diagnose and treat blood cancer more effectively.
Every day another 47 Australians are diagnosed with a blood cancer.
I'm on a mission to change that.
Will you help by sponsoring me?
|
I will also be donating my hair to make wigs to give confidence back to those undergoing treatment.
That will be over 53cm of hair!!
I would greatly appreciate your support !!
Thanks so much
Toni
