OPENING SCHOOL MASS - CELEBRATES A GREAT BEGINNING
St Peter’s Opening School Mass, held yesterday was a beautiful celebration marking the beginning of the School Year and the enthusiasm of leadership already being exercised by students from our senior grades. During mass we had the opportunity to formally acknowledge and badge our Year 6 leadership team for 2021. Congratulations!
PASTORAL CARE CONTINUUM - INVITE TO COMMENT
St Peter’s Pastoral Care Continuum has been placed in the newsletter the last 3 weeks and is again inserted below.
A second document has been included again for you to comment on any part of the continuum. This will be the final opportunity to comment on what we consider to be one of the most important policies designed for our community.
Pastoral Care Continuum - Family Feedback
PASTORAL CARE TEAM TOUCHING BASE
Over the next two weeks, our Pastoral Care Team (see below), will be contacting a number of families, who may benefit from additional support to help the learning or well-being of our children.

Sometimes our little people experience some social or emotional uncertainty or our families may be in a situation of some challenge where a little information shared between home and school can potentially offer relief or support.
We introduced this last year when the pandemic started to impact and found it was beneficial to a number of our families. It is also great for the Pastoral Care team to hear that things are going well and that our little people and families have settled contentedly and are enjoying the transition into the new school year.
Pastoral Care Team Referral - If you wish to make a referral to the Pastoral Care Team regarding concerns impacting your child's learning or well-being at school, please fill in the following referral form, (also available on our website, Szapp and side panel of our newsletter) and a member of the team will be in contact with you.GARDENERS TO THE GREENHOUSE
Anthea Romer and Aliya Morris-Boyd have a number of young apprentices assisting with germination of new plants and maintaining established plants and gardens keeping our school beautiful.
Our little gardeners were intrigued with drawing seeds from husks of what appeared dead agapanthus and planting them to regenerate new growth.
It is encouraging to see young people take such an interest in plants and looking after our environment. The pictures in 'Around the School' show the dedication to this task.
UPCOMING KINDER 22 TOURS
Who would have thought? One year just settled and now looking to orientate the next…
As part of the enrolment process for Kinder 2022 there is a timeline of opportunities for parents to gain an informed idea of the environment they wish their child to be educated within.
To this end, there will be 2 Kindergarten Parent Tours at St Peter’s as well as our other parish primary schools on :
- Saturday, March 20 - 9:30 am (meet at front gate)
- Thursday, April 22 - 4:30 pm (meet at front gate).
Please pass on this information to any families who you think may be interested.
NEW FAMILIES LEARN SOMETHING NEW
Rebecca Cameron, AP/Mission organised a delightful little gathering for our new families to St Peter’s.
A group of around 15 families gathered together in the hall on Monday morning after Assembly.
After an informal chat the innocent gathering was subjected to one of Mr Leary‘s games. They were required to ask 1 of 5 possible questions to at least 3 people they didn’t know.
Did you know:
- One of our new mums is a horse trainer who has trained two winners in a recent race meeting
- One of our dads loved his primary teacher because he told great stories (we all love a good story)
- The time when 2 of our mums last ran really fast, was in the last week as they are prepping for an upcoming big event
- A small group of mums didn’t follow the plan and just had a good conversation - did you know - 2 of those mums are our teachers.
There was some really good feedback (expressed by the discussion group) around the communication and photos being made available to families of their little people’s first experiences in Kinder this year.
Prayer for the Second Week of Lent
Transforming God, you are our light and our salvation. We have no need to fear.
You are our stronghold.
We are not afraid.
You hear us when we cry out.
You graciously answer us.
You invite us to seek your face.
With humble and sincere hearts we seek you.
You do not hide from us, or turn us away.
You are our help in all situations.
You are ever faithful and compassionate.
You are the God of our salvation.
You call us to wait for you, to be strong and take courage.
In certain hope, we look to you and wait.
During these 40 days of Lent,
Spirit, speak to us.
Enable us to be transformed,
So that our lives speak of you to the world.
Help us to see more clearly, to listen deeply,
And to respond with your wisdom and compassion.
Amen.

St Peter’s Opening School Mass
Yesterday we had the opportunity to come together as a community of faith to celebrate our new school year. Thank you to Fr Paul and all of the staff and students who were involved in making our Mass so special. We pray that as a community we always ensure a genuine welcome and the love of Jesus is offered to all those who enter our school.

LEARNING
NAPLAN tests the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy. It is important to remember that NAPLAN is not about passing or failing, but about assessing learning progress. At the classroom level it is one of a number of important tools used by teachers to measure student progress. This year our children will be completing their NAPLAN online.
NAPLAN Online will provide better assessment, more precise results and faster turnaround of information. The assessments can run through a real-time internet connection or onscreen without an internet connection.
NAPLAN Online features ‘tailored testing’ which gives students questions that are more suited to their ability – resulting in better assessment and more precise results. This video will explain how it works. NAPLAN Video
There is also NAPLAN Online demonstration that you can access at NAPLAN Public Demonstration Site

Update on Zone Winter Sports
We have activated our back up day of Monday March 1, 2021 but we have altered the venues due to wet weather. Due to a significant chance of Stuarts Park being closed on Monday, we have booked the ovals at St Joseph's Regional College instead. Netball will still go ahead at the basketball stadium.
Due to having 2 playing sites, the bus will now leave at 7:45am sharp. Please ensure your child is at school well before this time in order to be given jerseys etc.
New regulations that will accompany it:
No parents will be allowed on-site as spectators at either St Joseph's or the Port Macquarie Indoor Stadium.
If this day is postponed, I will post information on our St Peter’s Sport Facebook Page at approx 6:30am. Should it be postponed, the next back up day will occur in Week 6.
Sporting Schools
Our Sporting Schools Program kicked off with Year 3 undertaking Football/ Soccer and Year 6 undertaking Touch Football. Year 1 will commence their Touch Football program in Week 6.
Cross Country
I keep telling myself, this wet weather will go away, and I’m sure it will. On Wednesday March 10, we will run our School Cross Country Carnival. This is our first major sporting carnival and will form part of our school team attending the Zone Cross Country in early Term 2. As per last year, we are unable to have families attend the day due to COVID-19 restrictions, but I will film parts of events and post them on our St Peter’s Sport Facebook page for families to view.
Sports Questions
I have had many questions about sport at St Peter’s over the last couple of weeks, which is great. It is always very busy on the sporting front with so much happening, and at times can be confusing. I encourage families to email me if they have any questions about sport, or if I have posted something on the St Peter’s Sport Facebook page, please feel free to ask your question there. My email is jeff.arkinstall@lism.catholic.edu.au

Leukaemia Foundation World’s Greatest Shave
Please support St Peter's parent, Toni Menjivar!
I'm on a mission to shave the world from blood cancer, and I need YOUR HELP!
On Saturday 13th of March I'm sacrificing my locks to help Aussie families facing blood cancer.
Will you step up and sponsor me as I take on the World's Greatest Shave?
Your donation will provide families facing blood cancer with the special care they need to make it through every scary, uncertain moment that follows a diagnosis.
It will also help brilliant research scientists continue their search for better ways to diagnose and treat blood cancer more effectively.
Every day another 47 Australians are diagnosed with a blood cancer.
I'm on a mission to change that.
Will you help by sponsoring me?
