PARENTS AND FRIENDS REUNITED
After many months, it was a delight to join with our families once again, on an open invitation for our first P&F meeting this year.
The meeting followed our Kindergarten information evening last Wednesday and was well attended.
Our families had the opportunity to look at parts of the Pastoral Care continuum and provide helpful feedback for refinement of the continuum.
Thanks to those families who came along and we look forward to creating opportunities for all families to be much more engaged in our children’s education this year.
PASTORAL CARE CONTINUUM
St Peter’s Pastoral Care Continuum is very likely the most important document in our school.
This document outlines how we promote and educate our students about personal care and responsibility and how we can nurture positive and rewarding relationships with others and our world.
As indicated in last week’s newsletter, we will also provide a link over the next two weeks for you to comment on any aspects of the continuum.
TEACHER PARENT MEETINGS HELP SET THE EDUCATIONAL LANDSCAPE
Class and support teachers appreciated the enthusiastic attendance of families at teacher-parent meetings this week.
Each class team of teachers presented a broad perspective of each of the Key Learning Areas as well as incidental and extra curricular activities, that are planned for Year levels in 2021.
As a Principal, it is really encouraging to attend meetings and listen to teachers relating consistent communication around the nature and style of learning and clear expectations that help our children build clarity around positive personal growth and rewarding interactions with others and our world.
I would like to thank families for taking the time to attend meetings and especially thank our staff for their preparation and commitment in assisting families to understand the context and considerations for our little people during 2021.
Thank you also to our Learning Assistants, who provided babysitting for families, over the three evenings.
ANY GARDNERS LIKE TO ASSIST?
Our school has some beautifully established gardens and we are now pulling together a team to maintain these gardens and consider other spaces to beautify or cultivate.
Mrs Anthea Romer (parent) and Aliya Morris (new Indigenous Education Worker) have kindly offered to coordinate a family gardening group, which will help continue the wonderful work done already and provide our children with some valuable learning experiences around horticulture and sustainability.
Could you please ring the front office 6584 1962 and indicate your interest and availability if you would like to join the group.
SCHOOL LEADERS AND OPENING MASS - PARENTS OF LEADERS WELCOME
Our Opening School Mass, which also includes the formal recognition of our ‘badged’ school leaders is on Thursday, February 25, 9:30 am.
This is a very special celebration for our school community and will be celebrated in the Don Farrell Hall.
Parents of our badged leaders – School Captains, School Vice Captains, SRC members and House Captains are warmly invited to attend.
MISSION
St Peter’s Prayer Day
Our annual St Peter’s Prayer Day will take place next week, a day we remember members of our school community, family and friends who have passed away. This year is particularly poignant for the St Peter’s community, with the passing in the holidays of Don Farrell, the founding principal of St Peter’s. Don was a much loved and admired member of our St Peter’s community and his death has been felt profoundly by many current and past staff members, students and families. A special prayer service is planned to remember Don, as well as other deceased members of our community.
Journey with Jesus Year 6 Retreat
Last Wednesday Year 6 participated in the Journey with Jesus Retreat Program. Our Year 6 students were joined by the Year 9 Youth Ministry class from MacKillop, as well as Jules and Ella, the MacKillop Youth Ministry Officers for 2021.
Journey with Jesus is a faith and ministry experience that delves into core concepts of the Catholic Faith. As students progressed through the day, they discovered that Jesus not only lived and died for them, but has also risen and lives again for them, therefore allowing us to have a deep and personal relationship with Him through the Holy Spirit. The experience brought to life what Pope Francis describes as the first proclamation, “Jesus Christ loves you; he gave his life to save you; and now he is living at your side every day to enlighten, strengthen and free you.”
Later in the term, an invitation will be extended to Year 6 to join a new junior ministry group at St Peter’s. This group will meet once per week during Lunch 1 playtime and will work closely with the MacKillop Youth Ministry Officers, Mrs Cameron and the Year 6 Faith and Social Justice Leaders to coordinate our school’s social justice initiatives, as well as to share the love of Jesus Christ with their younger peers through ministry, games and friendship. Membership of this group will be optional, and open to Year 6 students only.
Sacrament of Penance
Registration closes Friday 12th February @ 5pm.
Students in Year 4 and 5 have been invited to continue their Sacramental journey and register for the Sacrament of Penance. A letter has been sent home to parents this week. St Agnes' parish will be hosting two registration evenings and parents are invited to register and attend one of the evenings.

Help Us Plan for Our Future - A letter from Adam Spencer CEO St Agnes' Parish
Dear Parents/Guardians
HELP US PLAN FOR OUR FUTURE
We have started planning for the next St Agnes’ Catholic Parish Strategic Plan 2021-2026 as our current (and first) Parish Strategic Plan comes to an end in June 2021.
To kick off this process we are seeking open and honest input from all our key stakeholders (you).
‘Big picture’ planning like this will help us better understand how to respond to the needs of our community in the coming years.
You can help us by sharing your vision, your big ideas, what you value, what you think is working well and what’s not. Now is the opportunity to have your say:
Take our survey online link
OR
Request a paper copy by emailing brooke.bloomfield@stagnesparish.org.au or calling Parish Administration on 02 6588 7444
All surveys must be completed and returned by
Wednesday 17 February 2021
(paper copies can be returned to the Parish Administration Centre, PO Box 1736, Port Macquarie NSW 2444)
We will also be conducting some focus groups to further explore our Parish aspirations. If you would like to be part of one of these groups please email: karen.kovac@stagnesparish.org.au to register your name and details.
We are all part of this plan, so it is important to capture your ideas for the future of our diverse and wonderful Parish.
Thanks, again, for sharing your thoughts. I appreciate the time and effort you will take in completing the survey.

Here we go!
On Monday we kick off our first Zone Carnival of the year, the Zone Swimming Carnival. Speaking to a large number of the team, they have been in the water doing laps in order to have the best chance possible of being successful. A reminder, the bus will depart at 7am sharp from St Peter’s. As per information sent home this week, the pool has a number of COVID rules that must be followed on the day.
- Only 1 parent per family is allowed to attend, this is to ensure that parents are physically separated from students/schools.
- Parents will need to sit in allocated locations around the pool.
- Please keep in mind that we do require parents to assist in volunteering on the day. It is an expectation that we look after one lane. Normally, it’s just for one stroke only and we rotate. If you haven’t already indicated and can assist, please email me. My email is jeff.arkinstall@lism.catholic.edu.au
- The cost for parents is $2.80 and can be paid at the pool entrance.
Mr Leary is lacing up the boots!
All Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 students have been offered the opportunity to trial for our teams that will represent the school at the All Schools Rugby League Gala Day. We will shortly inform all students who have returned their form, as to when Mr Leary will commence training. Thank you again to the huge amount of students who have shown interest, it’s great to see.
Well done Noah
A big congratulations to Noah Pociask who last Friday made the Boys Polding Tennis Team for 2021. Last year, Noah also made the team but due to COVID-19, he was unable to play. All the best to Noah at the NSWPSSA State Carnival later in the year.
Winter Sport Trials finalised
A huge thank you to Mr Murtagh, Miss McKenzie and Miss Dal Santo for supporting our students at trialling for Summer Sports. Team have now been finalised and notes will be sent home. Well done to the large number of Year 5 and 6 students who trialled.

Leukaemia Foundation World’s Greatest Shave
Please support St Peter's parent, Toni Menjivar!
I'm on a mission to shave the world from blood cancer, and I need YOUR HELP!
On Saturday 13th of March I'm sacrificing my locks to help Aussie families facing blood cancer.
Will you step up and sponsor me as I take on the World's Greatest Shave?
Your donation will provide families facing blood cancer with the special care they need to make it through every scary, uncertain moment that follows a diagnosis.
It will also help brilliant research scientists continue their search for better ways to diagnose and treat blood cancer more effectively.
Every day another 47 Australians are diagnosed with a blood cancer.
I'm on a mission to change that.
Will you help by sponsoring me?
