Recognising our School Counsellor
Little Moments, Lasting Change
Friday 8th November 2024 is School Counsellor and School Psychologist Recognition Day. Today, we celebrate our wonderful school counsellor, Katie Files.
This year’s theme, "Little Moments, Lasting Change," captures the essence of the invaluable work our counsellors/psychologists do every day. They have provided little moments of listening, understanding, and connecting that have supported students, families, and staff to notice their needs and strengths, persevere and grow.
Parent Input for 2025 Classes
Thank you to those parents and carers who emailed with information to support their children’s placements for 2025. Those received by the closing date have been added to the process for class development. We appreciate the respectful way in which these were given and look forward to constructing the best groupings possible for 2025. Staff have a handover process later in the term to ensure all important information they know about your children this year is shared with staff who will be working with them next year. We also will welcome some lovely new families in 2025 to our community.

ICAS AWARDS 2024
The ICAS Competitions are an internationally recognised gold standard in academic competitions. International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) is a historic academic competition that has been sat by over 10 million school students from 16,000 schools across 41 countries since 1981.

During Terms 3 and 4, 20 stage 3 students were selected to participate in Tech Club where they showcased their knowledge and broadened their understanding of designing, building and coding through the annual Lego League competition.
Both St Peter’s teams worked hard during lunch times to prepare for this competition which took place in week 2 at Kempsey South Public School. Our St Peter’s teams demonstrated excellent teamwork and competed against other schools in the region, taking out 1st and 5th place in the coding and robotics challenge. Why is sport important for your child?
Participation in sports can help students in a multitude of ways. Physical activity can not only contribute to improving students’ physical health, but it can also aid in developing social skills and improving mental health, as well as leading to better academic outcomes and school completion. Students who participate in sports during the school years tend to have a positive attitude towards physical activity which does not diminish as they age.
Summer Sports
Well done to all our Touch Footballers and Cricketers who trialled for the Hastings Zone Teams on Monday. All athletes displayed their skills and PBS Values. A special well done to Bonnie Mann, Pippa Hudson, Paige Zvirdinas, Tasman Lorger, Jasper Luck, Nixon Smith, Mason Duffy and Albi Winters who was selected, and will now trial at the Lismore Diocese Summer Sports Touch Football Trial in late November. Also, a special well done to William Kee, who was selected for the Hastings Zone Cricket Team, and will now trial at the Lismore Diocese Summer Sports Trials next week.
Basketball NSW Regional Champions
A huge day of basketball on Tuesday for our school team in the Basketball NSW Regional Championships in Coffs Harbour. The team won all 3 games in the lead-up to the Grand Final and then went on to win the Grand Final. We scored 163 points over the 4 games to our opposition 40 points! The 10 boys played very well together and were always humble during all games. A special thank you and well done to Mr Post, who coached the boys beautifully and yet again got the best out of the team.
Jai Davis… you SUPER star
Today, Jai attended the Hastings Sunrise Sportsperson (Primary) of the Year. Jai and his family attended a wonderful celebration of sport in the region. Jai as you know is an amazing athlete across many sports. However, Shot Put has been where he has excelled at the National level. Last year, he was awarded 2nd place in the National Athletics Championships- Shot Put. This year, he broke the Polding 11-Year Shot Put Record and threw 11.32M to make his 2nd NSW State Team in as many years.
Congratulations Jai.

INSPIRED READERS FESTIVAL
On Thursday, Mrs Michelle Lawler and myself had the pleasure of attending the Inspired Readers Festival at Charles Sturt University with a group of Year 2 students. Through this experience, we had the opportunity to connect with some of Australia’s most cherished authors and enjoy a day celebrating the magic of storytelling. Further details about this event including photos will be shared in the next issue of “Postman Pete”.
