BOOK WEEK AND GRANDPARENTS DAY
We had a wonderful celebration for Book Week on Wednesday, with our Book Character Parade. With a record number of visitors, the parade was extended to ensure everyone could see the amazing costumes. We thank our parents and carers for supporting their children to come as a favourite character. We also thank Mrs Ayres for preparing a wonderful series of events for Book Week, including the Book Stall and the library transformation to match the theme of “Reading is Magic!”.
This year we had a double celebration, with the invitation for our Grandparents to join the fun of the Book Character Parade as well as their own special focus. It was so wonderful to see many grandparents stay on for a fruit and snack break with our classes, our prayer service to recognise their wisdom and contributions to the lives of their grandchildren, and their special candle gift. Thank you to all of the parents and grandparents who were with us for the morning; there were more than 400 visitors to our school! What a great community event.
AFTERNOON PICK UP REMINDERS
We ask parents and carers to pay special attention to safety in our carpark during the busy afternoon pick up time. We have been aware of a few near misses recently and appeal to everyone to be part of the solution to this issue before a near miss becomes a reality. If you are picking up your child, please keep them with you rather than allowing them to go ahead. They are not spatially aware enough to make decisions on their own and need you to be with them. We understand people would like to avoid a long walk by returning to cars away from the crossing, but it is there with our amazing Vicky to keep you safe. Please consider taking a longer walk for safety rather than crossing near the roundabout where traffic is busiest. The footpath next to the buses is for bus pickups and is busiest in the afternoons. As it is a road, it has added danger for children, so you must be with your children and not allow them to go ahead. One child scared a bus driver by running onto the road ahead of their parents and it was the action of the bus driver that this was not a disaster. We also ask that you don’t allow children to play in the gully between the schools as this is also not a safe area and out of bounds for our children.

DEALING WITH SCHOOL ANXIETY
This webinar explains why school anxiety happens and why anxiety isn’t the problem, but how our response can cause trouble for our children. It also highlights three things that helps our kids stay connected to their education and is a highly worthwhile listen for all parents of ALL school aged children. Listen at your leisure for free until the 11th September.
LEARNING
MUSIC - RHYTHM TO RECOVERY DRUMMING
At St Peter’s, we remain steadfast in our commitment to enriching the educational experience through diverse and dynamic programs. One such program that continues to gather enthusiasm and acclaim is our drumming initiative.
MAKE NEW FRIENDS
Did you know that drumming is like learning a universal language that connects people from all around the world? Whether you're at home or exploring new places, drumming lets you communicate through rhythm with anyone who loves music just like you! Imagine joining a band, playing in an orchestra, or even being part of a drum circle where everyone creates music together. It's not just about making beats; it's about making new friends and having amazing adventures through music.
LEARNING TO PLAY MANY INSTRUMENTS
Did you know that learning to play the drums opens up a whole world of music and creativity? When you start with drums, you're not just learning one instrument—you're gaining the skills to play many different ones! From Djembe Drums to Congas, Clave Rhythms to Marching Bass Drums, and even instruments like the triangle, spoons, and buckets, a percussionist's toolkit is incredibly diverse.
ENHANCING FAITH THROUGH SPORT

This week, I had the privilege of attending the Lismore Diocese Athletics Carnival. I was so proud of all of our athletes, as they represented St Peter’s with great pride. We had 55% of our athletes move onto the next level, which is fantastic.

BOOK WEEK CELEBRATIONS
This week, our St Peter’s community celebrated all things books and reading. On Monday, our celebrations commenced with over 400 students attending our book stall to choose from a variety of age-appropriate books.
Many classes also attended virtual author talks/lessons hosted by various providers throughout the week, including, amongst other sessions, a Harry Potter lesson and a discussion by authors Kate and Jol Temple on the importance of villains in stories.
There have also been many visitors enjoying our library space which has recently been transformed into “Hogwarts” in celebration of this year’s Book Week theme, “Reading is Magic”. The short-listed and award winning books for this year’s Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Awards have also been on display in the library and are now available for students to borrow/reserve.
To date, we have also had over 100 new books generously donated to our school library through our online Book Fair for students to enjoy! This initiative will run throughout Term 3 (via Flexi-Schools) or until all books are sold out.
Throughout the Term students have been anticipating our upcoming Book Week parade and on Wednesday, the excitement was evident! It was fantastic to see so many students dressing as their favourite book character and celebrating a love of books. Many thanks to our St Peter’s families for all your assistance throughout our book week celebrations and for fostering a love of reading in our students! We truly appreciate your support!
