KINDERGARTEN 2025 ENROLMENTS AND INTERVIEWS
It has been a pleasure over the past 4 weeks to spend time with families in interviews for K2025 enrolments. We have been fortunate to have plenty of enrolments coming in for our new cohort so our numbers are healthy for next year. Principals in each Parish Primary School will now review their enrolments and within the coming weeks send out letters of offer. As we do this together, it may take several weeks, so don’t be concerned if this moves us into the end of August or early September. If you know someone who has not completed an enrolment form for any of our schools but is hoping for a place, please remind them that our first period of interviews has closed and there may be limited places available for further applications.
ASSEMBLIES TERM 3
Due to the large amount of activities currently taking place during this term around our assembly times, we will pause these on Friday afternoons until Term 4. Our Year 6 leaders will have many opportunities to lead assemblies in Term 4 as well as at other times this Term in other ways.
MORNING GATE REMINDERS
The entry gate opens no earlier than 8am in the morning each school day for parents dropping off children. Your child’s safety remains your responsibility prior to 8am, so dropping them off early is not advisable without your supervision. There are a growing number of children waiting for the gate to open in the morning and we continue to remind them of our expectations for their safety and respectful behaviour to each other and our staff. Several children were found encouraging younger children one morning this week to slide into the gully between St Peter’s and MacKillop, which is unsafe and out of bounds for them. If you need to drop your children early, please speak with them about your expectations aligning with ours for their safety and respectful behaviour. If you do not need to drop off earlier than 8am, please wait until gate opening time.
MISSION
FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
Yesterday, 15th August, was the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On this feast day, we remember when Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken into heaven, body and soul, after she died. Mary’s life and death are a wonderful example of praise and thanksgiving to God and she inspires Catholics all across the world to live as faithful and trusting disciples of God. Yesterday, the students celebrated a special prayer for Mary in classrooms.
RECONCILIATION AT ST PETER'S
Each week this Term students at St Peter’s will have the opportunity to have reconciliation with one of our parish priests. Thank you Fr Paul and Fr Alejo who were able to spend time with Year 6 Red last week.

MUSIC - RHYTHM TO RECOVERY DRUMMING
Continuing to highlight the benefits of drumming for St Peter’s students.
IMPROVES COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Students with musical training communicate better with peers, are more empathetic, and get lots of practice expressing ideas without using words. Drumming also teaches you to read non-verbal cues, which can help you learn to read between the lines.
BECOMING A GLOBAL CITIZEN
Drumming isn't just about rhythm and beats; it's a gateway to exploring diverse musical cultures and traditions. Whether you're delving into Latin Bossa Nova, Afro-Cuban Clave, or Jamaican Reggae, each style offers a unique perspective and enriches both your musical skills and your understanding of different cultures. It's a wonderful way to broaden your horizons and connect with people through the universal language of music.
YEAR 1 PHONICS SCREENING TEST
This week, Year 1 teachers began the annual Phonics Screening Test. This quick and simple check helps assess how well our students are learning to read. During the test, each student reads a list of 40 words to evaluate their ability to sound out words using phonics, a method of teaching reading by connecting sounds with letters. The data from the test allows teachers to monitor the effectiveness of our teaching programs and strategies, as well as identify students who may need extra support. Strong reading skills are the cornerstone of learning, and our teachers are committed to ensuring that engaging with quality literature is central to literacy instruction at St Peter’s. For more information about the Phonics Screening Test, please visit the NSW Education website.

Years 4, 5 and 6 pushed, trapped and hit in their first session of Hockey this week. The program will contiune in Weeks 5, 6 and 7.
SUPER SATURDAY
Staff last weekend had an awesome time watching many students getting out and active. Super Saturday (could also be any day or night of the week) is a tradition that extends back many years. It is a very unique initiative to our school. This tradition involves our staff, where available, coming into the community to watch your child play in a sporting event. This might be finals of soccer, netball. It might also be one of their final games of rugby league for the season. It might also be motorbike racing or gymnastics. For our staff, we get to cheer on and support your child in a different setting. Please feel free to email the date, location, time and fields/court etc of a particular event and I will send this through to staff. We can’t wait to see your kids getting out and active. My email address is jeff.arkinstall@lism.catholic.edu.au
YEARS 3 AND 4 TOUCH GALA DAY
On Thursday September 5, all Year 3 and 4 students will participate in the Touch Football Gala Day at Tuffins Lane, Port Macquarie. Over the years, it has been a wonderful day getting out and active and enjoying the company of friends and playing in a team environment.
A Compass notification will be sent shortly. On the Compass notification, you will notice we are seeking coaches for teams. We have 14 teams participating. If you have a current Working With Children Check and would like to manage a team (your child’s team), we would love your assistance. The role is very easy, it is subbing on and off students (6 on 6 off).
ELECTIVE SPORTS
During Weeks 1 to 5 of Term 4, Years 1 to 6 will be participating in an Elective Sports Program. The Program will be separated into stages. The sports available will be offered for a particular stage and will be outlined in next weeks Postman Pete.
Later in the Term, we will notify families of when a particular stage opens for registration. During the registration night, families will select and pay online, for their child’s chosen sport. You will choose one sport per child. Once a sport has been selected, it is final.
Learn to Surf will only be a Year 6 Sport, unless we don’t meet the maximum numbers. It will be offered to Year 5 if numbers aren’t reached. Forms have been given out to Year 6 students this week.
SOCCER AND NETBALL GALA DAY
The Hastings Zone Soccer and Netball Gala Day will be held on Thursday September 12 in Laurieton. I thank Mr Murtagh, Miss McKenzie, Mrs Ryan and Miss Wotherspoon for their support of the students.
ALL SCHOOLS RUGBY LEAGUE
A registration session for all Years 3-6 students occurred this week, as expected, we had huge numbers register. Training will commence shortly, and I thank Mr Rowlatt, Mr Duffy, Mr Baird and Mr Bright who will be assisting at training and coaching at the event. Without the amazing support of families like this, these opportunities don’t occur for our kids. I will have training details shortly for Years 5-6 and Years 3-4.
