NAIDOC CELEBRATIONS
Today we had a wonderful experience of culture for our NAIDOC celebrations. We began the day with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by Uncle Bill. We then participated in a Liturgy, with our Indigenous students playing important roles. The remainder of the day was a series of rotation activities which brought to life cultural experiences for our students.
We thank visiting IEWs from other schools and students from Newman and MacKillop for supporting the activities. The biggest thanks goes to our own IEW Leanne Parsons, who organised the entire day so meticulously and with such passion. We are very grateful to have her on our staff.

SAFETY CONCERNS WITH AFTER SCHOOL PROCESSES
We are aware that as a large school with a highschool next door using the same roads and carparks, picking up children in the afternoon is a busy process. There are many schools in our local area without carparks at all, so we are grateful that we have one. However, with this come some challenges that can cause very unsafe situations if processes are not followed.
Here are the reminders that need to be followed:
- Every child who is being collected from school to travel by car must be collected from the pickup area in the afternoon within the school gates.
- Children who walk or ride from school are supported to cross Greenmeadows Drive by a staff member from a designated area.
- Children who walk to MacKillop as they have a parent working there, are accompanied by a staff member until they are safely in the gates.
We have been made aware by MacKillop, that there are children joining the MacKillop line who are doing so to avoid parents needing to pick them up at St Peter’s, which is causing some near miss situations with traffic. We ask that all parents and carers follow the processes that work for our children to all be safe.
MISSION
ABSENT FROM THE TABLE RESEARCH PROJECT
In 2007, the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference (ACBC) studied why many active Catholics have stopped attending Mass. Since then, participation in sacraments like Mass, baptism, and matrimony has continued to decline.
The Absent from the Table Project aims to understand why Catholics are not attending Mass. Phase 1 of the project is an online survey for Catholics who do not regularly attend Sunday Mass. The insights provided by the survey will help parishes and school communities respond to participation trends, update the Church’s understanding of current issues, and address the reasons behind disengagement.
The survey is open to Catholics 18+ who do not regularly attend Sunday Mass. To participate, contact ncpr@catholic.org.au or visit the Survey Link
RECONCILIATION AT SCHOOL
Starting next week, Reconciliation will be offered to students in Years 4, 5 and 6 on Friday mornings with one of our parish priests. Reconciliation is a Sacrament instituted by Jesus Christ in his love and mercy to offer us forgiveness for the times we have sinned and turned away from God. Next week, Year 6 Red will participate.
Rite of Reconciliation – What to Expect
- Priest gives a blessing or greeting.
- Make the Sign of the Cross and say “Bless me father, for I have sinned. My last confession was…” (Give weeks, months, years).
- Confess all your sins to the priest (If you are unsure or uneasy, the priest will guide you).
- The priest assigns a penance and offers advice to help you be a better follower of Jesus.
- Say an Act of Contrition, expressing your sorrow for your sins.
O my God, I am very sorry that I have sinned against you,
because you are so good, and with your help I will not sin again.
Amen.
- The priest, acting in the person of Christ, then absolves you from your sins.

LEARNING
POLICE LIAISON VISIT TO ST PETER'S
Students from Kinder to Year 6, enjoyed a visit from Police Liaison Officer Wendy Hudson who spoke to them about all things safety. In particular wearing helmets, seatbelts and staying safe online. Do ask your child what their take away from the talk was.
100 DAYS OF KINDERGARTEN
Our Kindergarten students celebrated 100 days of learning on Thursday in acknowledgement of a wonderful transition into big school for our youngest learners.
The theme was 100 days and to celebrate, our Kindergarten students and K team decided to dress up as their 100 year old selves.
Kindergarten spent time writing about where they see themselves at 100 years old, created some artisticvan self portraits and enjoyed celebrating their 100 days of learning, laughing and growing with lots of activities and fun!
It is amazing to consider how much our Kindergarten cohort has grown, learnt and engaged in very rich connections with peers, staff and older children, over the first 2 Terms.
TECH CLUB
Begin preparation for Lego League Competition
20 students from Year 5 and Year 6 have been selected to be a part of the St Peter’s Tech Club. Over the next few months they will be working in teams to prepare for the Regional Lego League Competition in Term 4. Students will be learning and developing their coding skills and using Lego Spike to design and create robots that interact with objects in their environment.
RHYTHM 2 RECOVERY DRUMMING
The second benefit of drumming is the increase Academic Performance
The correlation between musical training and academic performance has been documented a number of times, particularly when it comes to math. Learning to drum, however, can also help you in subjects for example in English, by helping you identify emotional cues, a skill you can use to identify characters’ thought processes and motives.

Super Saturday (could also be any day or night of the week) is a tradition that extends back many years. It is a very unique initiative to our school. This tradition involves our staff, where available, coming into the community to watch your child play in a sporting event. This might be finals of soccer, netball. It might also be one of their final games of rugby league for the season. It might also be motorbike racing or gymnastics. For our staff, we get to cheer on and support your child in a different setting. Please feel free to email the date, location, time and fields/court etc of a particular event and I will send this through to staff. We can’t wait to see your kids getting out and active. My email address is jeff.arkinstall@lism.catholic.edu.au

THERE HAS BEEN A REPORT OF HEAD LICE ACROSS THE GRADES
The recurrence of head lice and treatment can be a very frustrating and expensive experience for families and your assistance is urgently sought in an effort to STOP THE CYCLE. Head lice are most common among primary school aged children and are spread by direct contact with the hair of the infested individual. Head lice are rarely transferred through clothing, hats, furniture or bedding.
Please take time to check your child’s hair - be diligent with your checking and treatment if lice or nits (eggs) are detected. It is extremely important to make sure that ALL eggs are removed. If we work together we can eliminate this problem quickly and stop the re infestation!
Our School policy on Head Lice is located in our Family Information Handbook and is printed below for your information.
Thank you for your consideration.
If children have head lice, it is suggested that parents:
- Check all other members of the family;
- Shampoo with one of the preparations from the chemist;
- NOTIFY THE SCHOOL
- Keep the children home until all the eggs have been removed;
- Wash all clothing in hot water with a little of the shampoo
- Keep long hair tied back;
- Impress on children not to play with, or comb, each other’s hair, borrow or swap hats.
NOTE
- It is requested not to shampoo as a precautionary measure as overuse may be dangerous.
- Regular checking of children’s hair is the responsibly of parents.
- Children will be sent home if head lice are detected at school.
