WELCOME BACK FOR TERM 3
We were so excited to see our students back with us on Tuesday morning as we gathered our school together. We acknowledged the many things that are ahead of us in this wonderful Term of learning and activities to enhance our school experience. Make sure you keep an eye on our Newsletter and Compass notifications to keep up to date with all that we are planning for this Term. Some of the activities we are looking forward to: Book Week, Sacrament of Confirmation, Dance Eisteddfod, School Concert, Father’s Day Colour Run. What a great Term!
WELCOME TO OUR NEW STUDENTS
Beatrice Hastings (Kindergarten), Evie Cooper (Year 1), Evelyn Bijoy (Year 1), Brayden Bijoy (Year 2), Charlie Cooper (Year 4) and Diya Dileep (Year 6).
They have already settled so well into our family here at St Peter’s and we look forward to getting to know them.
KINDERGARTEN INTERVIEWS FOR 2025
This week has started our Kindergarten interviews for 2025, which will run for the first 4 weeks of this Term. It has been such a pleasure to meet with existing families and new families who would like their children to be part of our cohort in 2025. We have great numbers of enrolments and would like to make sure no one misses out on being part of this interview period. If you have children already with us and have a child who is of school age for next year, please ensure you book an interview time as this is part of the enrolment process and helps us with managing the numbers of students for next year. Letters of offer will go out once the interview period is complete.

LEARNING
NAPLAN
Results Sent Home This Week
A reminder to Year 5 Families to keep your resulsts in a safe place as they will be required for Year 7 enrolment.
Parents of Year 3 and Year 5 students received their child’s NAPLAN results on Wednesday this week. NAPLAN is an assessment of student proficiency in all areas of English and Numeracy and gives an indication of how our students are progressing.
St Peter’s teachers and students continue to achieve strong results in NAPLAN assessments. 2024 saw particular growth in Writing, with 93% of Year 3 and 94% of Year 5 students achieving the top 2 bands. We can also report pleasing growth in Numeracy results, with 82% of Year 3 and 90% of Year 5 students achieving the top 2 bands. St Peter’s leadership team uses these results to guide annual planning and ‘take the temperature’ of learning and teaching at St Peter’s. If you have any questions regarding your child’s NAPLAN results, please get in contact with your child’s teacher via email.
RHYTHM 2 RECOVERY DRUMMING
Why drumming at St Peter’s?
Throughout the Term, we will spotlight the benefits for St Peter’s students in their music lessons as they learn to play the drums. Learning to play the drums is indeed incredibly fun and rewarding! Beyond the joy of making music, there are numerous surprising benefits to mastering this instrument.
Drumming Reduces Stress
The act of drumming prompts the brain to release endorphins, which are natural mood elevators. This effect is akin to the "runner's high" experienced after vigorous exercise. Even a short session of drumming can noticeably improve your mood and mental state. Playing drums can be a remarkable stress reliever, offering an outlet for frustration, disappointment, and daily stressors. Whether you're sitting behind a drum kit, participating in a drum circle with a djembe, or playing a marching band bass drum, drumming provides a therapeutic release.

ENHANCING FAITH THROUGH SPORT
WEEK 1 HAS BEEN HUGE !!
This week, we have had NSWPSSA Cross Country, Zone Athletics and an AFL Gala Day. As per every Term, Sport never stops, we can’t wait to show you our sporting story in the Term ahead.
WE DID IT
ZONE ATHLETICS !!!!
Our 50 strong Zone Athletics team competed very well on Wednesday and we were again successful in winning the day. It was amazing watching our athletes perform at their very best and at the same time, displaying their PBS values on and off the track. A huge thank you to Mrs Tarbox, Miss Fowler and Mrs Kipreotis for supporting the children. A special thank you to the huge amount of families who supported all of our kids to make a very special day. All students who have progressed will be processed through Compass.
AFL GALA DAY
The sun was shinning and we were able to compete in the postponed AFL Gala Day yesterday. The team played very well all day and were undefeated! We beat Tacking Point in the final and have now progressed to Coffs Harbour for the Regional Final next week. A Compass Event has been sent out to parents for consent to attend, consent is due by 30th July, 2024. A huge thank you to Mrs Bates for all your support of the day. A special thank you to Mrs Harris in preparing oranges for the team.
WELL DONE AMAYA AND CRUZE !!
A huge congratulations to Amaya Davis and Cruze Alley at the NSWPSSA Cross Country. This is an amazing achievement to get to this level and we are so proud of you both.
WE ARE OFF TO REGIONALS
We have been fortunate to be invited to the Netball All Schools Regional Finals on Wednesday August 7. Mrs Ryan, Miss McKenzie and Miss Wotherspoon will commence training early next week.
SUPER SATURDAY
Super Saturday (could also be any day or night of the week) is a tradition that extends back many years. It is a very unique initiative to our school. This tradition involves our staff, where available, coming into the community to watch your child play in a sporting event. This might be finals of soccer, netball. It might also be one of their final games of rugby league for the season. It might also be motorbike racing or gymnastics. For our staff, we get to cheer on and support your child in a different setting. Over the years, it has always been a very special time. I remember a number of years ago, Mrs Mowle, Mrs Kalchbauer and Mrs Morris went to watch a Year 1 girls soccer team called the “Rabbits”. The girls were so excited to see their teachers, so much so the game commenced and the entire team were cuddling their teachers as a goal by the opposition was scored. The game became secondary, with the excitement of seeing their teachers as a primary focus. Please feel free to email the date, location, time and fields/court etc of a particular event and I will send this through to staff. We can’t wait to see your kids getting out and active. My email address is jeff.arkinstall@lism.catholic.edu.au
SUCCESSFUL SPORTING GRANTS
We have been fortunate to be awarded a Sporting Schools Grant of $3,500.00 for Term 3. This will provide an opportunity for all Year 4, 5 and 6 students to participate in Hockey. This will be run by Development Officers from Hockey NSW. The session will commence in Week 4.
ST PETER'S SPORT - FACEBOOK PAGE
You may not know that we have a St Peter’s Sports Facebook page. This page keeps families up to date with sporting events and provides a host of information about all things school sports. If you aren’t currently a member, please feel free to join.
SPORT QUESTIONS ?
Sport is very big at St Peter’s and every week there are many opportunities that we offer. Each year, we have a new cohort who enter our Pathway Sports, as well as many new families. Due to so many sports on offer, it can become confusing. Please feel free to contact me and I can hopefully assist: jeff.arkinstall@lism.catholic.edu.au
TERM 3 .... The Road Ahead
Week 3 | Wednesday 7th August | Netball All Schools Regional Final |
Week 4 | Friday 16th August | Lismore Diocese Athletics Championships |
Week 8 | Thursday 12th September | Zone Soccer and Netball Gala Day |
Throughout the Term, we will be highlighting our A4 Art Finalists beginning with Kindergarten.
Evelyn T Artwork - Rainbow Lantern I made my lantern by taking one piece of paper and cutting 3 strips, then I folded it and cut lines. I folded the other way, coloured it and glued it together. I glued it on the handle and the crosses at the bottom. Making lanterns is special because I used to make lanterns with my friends at little school (daycare) and it helps me remember them. I like lanterns, the light helps me sleep. |
|
Olive H Artwork -Magical Glittery Princess This is my magical glittery princess. Move your head back and forth to see her glitter and shine. Magical things happen all the time. |

Lucy M Artwork - Bushland
This artwork is colourful and makes me feel happy. I like animals and nature. |

The dance lessons will provide support to the PE timetable.

St Peter’s Dance Concert Class Rehearsal Timetable Term 3 2024
2024 By Request
All lessons are in the Don Farrell Hall
We look forward to returning to the Glasshouse for our dance concert this year. We will again have the opportunity to showcase two dance performances. Ticket prices are $20 each. The tickets for the Dance Concert can be purchased from the Glasshouse - over the phone, in person or on the website. The date when tickets go on sale will be confirmed next term.
Night Performance: Monday 23rd September, 6.00 pm at The Glasshouse, Port Macquarie.
Night Performance: Tuesday 24th September, 6.00 pm at The Glasshouse, Port Macquarie.
The Glasshouse seats 588 people, which equates to 1176 tickets over two evenings. When purchasing tickets, there will be a limit of 4 tickets per transaction, as we would like every family to have the opportunity to attend one night. You will be notified through the newsletter when these tickets will go on sale through the Glasshouse. Updates will also be posted in Postman Pete. There is no need to purchase tickets for students, as there will be a whole school Dance Concert Rehearsal in the Don Farrell Hall on Friday 20th September, Week 9 Term 3, where all children at school will attend as an audience.
Our school band will perform on both nights from 5.40 pm, while guests take their seats. Students performing in the band are required to arrive at 5.20 pm and be signed in at The Dock area on both nights.
It is expected that all children will be at both night performances. It is a team effort and everyone plays an important role in the staging of the class dances.
You will also receive a separate Costume Note, detailing the specific requirements for each individual child in their class group, early next term.
Students will travel by bus to the Glasshouse on the morning of Monday 23rd September in school uniform (not costume) for a technical rehearsal and block (stage orientation) before the night performance.
This rehearsal is essential for a smooth show, so again, please ensure your child can attend.
We will then return to school in time for 3:00 pm buses and parent pick-up etc.
The 7 Eisteddfod Dance groups will also have an opportunity to rehearse on stage and perform as part of our Dance Concert before their Eisteddfod Competition on Thursday night 26th September in the same week.
When students arrive at The Glasshouse, parents are asked to sign them in at an assigned area on both evenings of Monday 23rd and Wednesday 24th September at 5.30 pm. Once signed in, it is the policy of The Glasshouse, for safety reasons, that all students stay until the end of the concert on both nights. Afterwards, students can be collected by parents from 3 separate areas, including The Dock, The Foyer and the Upstairs area outside the Meeting Rooms. Further information regarding drop-offs and pick-ups will be provided later this term.
