REPORTS AND PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Today you will have received your notification through Compass, that Semester 1 reports are ready for you to access for your child/ren. I encourage you to open the report and read through it over the weekend so that you can see how your child has progressed in Semester 1. As we highlighted previously in the newsletter, there are some visible differences to the format and language in the reports, which you may find helpful to know. You may find areas you are unsure about and need clarity, which is also why teachers are keen to meet with parents next week in interviews, to continue collaborating in Semester 2. The interviews can clarify, but also are opportunities to see how you can support and encourage your child/ren in their future goals. Interviews can be booked through your Compass app. Above all, be sure to acknowledge that all progress, even if it is small, is worthwhile and part of the learning process. Talk to your child/ren, celebrate their success and let them know you are proud of them and their efforts.
END OF TERM
We are noticing at school, which we are sure you will at home too, that children are getting weary as the term closes. This is normal, with a lot of effort and energy going into days at school as well as many outside of school activities that children and families engage in. This has also been impacted by a tough winter season for illness. Don’t forget that rest and sleep are the most powerful sources of healing for bodies and minds, helping to get through one more busy school week until a holiday break.
MISSION
ST PETER'S FEAST DAY - NEXT WEEK
We are so excited to have Wildfire coming to celebrate St Peter's Feast Day with us on Monday 1st July (Week 10). They will be providing music ministry for Mass and working with grades later in the day. We look forward to families joining us for Mass and a BYO picnic lunch.
PARENT COMMUNITY GROUP EVENT - (NEXT TERM)
Are you ready to equip your child with the tools they need for lifelong success? Join us for an engaging and informative workshop designed to help you unpack some great parenting tools. The workshop will be delivered by Janita Thompson the Lead of Family-School Partnerships in the Diocese of Lismore. Janita has many years of experience delivering parenting workshops as well as her own lived experience raising four of her own children who are now flourishing in their teenage years.
LEARNING
MORE SCIENCE FUN IN YEAR 3
There has been another exciting Science Experiment in Year 3 this week! Students used their solids, liquids and gases knowledge to create a carbon dioxide-filled balloon! They added bicarbonate soda to vinegar and there was an exciting chemical reaction. Well done Year 3!
ABBY ZERAFA - NESA WRITE ON COMPETITION 2024
A huge congratulations goes to Abby Zerafa from Year 3 Green who has been chosen as St Peter’s representative in the statewide writing competition, ‘WriteOn 2024’. Abby rose to the challenge of creating a 500 word piece of writing inspired by the Arthur Streeton painting, ‘The Railway Station, Redfern’ 1893.
Abby’s beautiful creation, “Dream”, tells the story of 9 year old Lily, who is going through some tough times, but with perseverance with her musical talents and the kindness of others, Lily’s life is turned around.
There was tough competition this year, with a diverse range of stories being considered for entry into the competition, but Abby’s piece of writing not only fit the writing brief, but was created with imagination, high level writing skills and attention to detail.
Thank you to all the students who submitted their writing in 2024 and we look forward to continuing being able to showcase all the talented writers we have at St. Peter’s.
Congratulations once again to Abby Zerafa!
Purpose: To look at influences on choices we make and how that can impact on our safety and relationships.
- When are we under pressure from others? (When they try to make us do things we don’t want)
- Can people be pressured in non-physical ways? How? (Yes; threats, tricks, bribes)
- Can people be pressured online? How? (Yes; others try to make us do things we don’t want)
- What will help protect us from pressure? (Friends, strengths, relationships, belief in right/wrong)
- we should have school on Saturday
- teachers don’t do anything about teasing
- we should be made aware of other students problems
- there should be more teachers on duty to stop bullying
- I feel safe when on the computer
- bullies should be on detention all play time
- no one can hurt me when on the computer
Next Week's Purpose: Working together to help support and build the strengths of others to manage bullying.

Clothing Pool - Donations Welcome!
With the change over to our new school uniform completed last year, we are now in need of uniforms (shorts, skorts, shirts, jumpers, jackets, track pants, hats) to add to the 'pool'. Smaller sizes are in high demand but all sizes are appreciated!
If you have any uniforms that your child has grown out of and you wish to donate, please drop them into the school office. (Unfortunately, we can no longer accept the old uniform style items.)
Thank you to families who have already donated uniforms for our clothing pool.
RHYTHM 2 RECOVERY DRUMMING TRAINING
Recently, both the Creative Arts and Pastoral Care teams embarked on Rhythm 2 Recovery training. As a result, the Creative Arts team will soon introduce a drumming program into the primary school music curriculum. Simultaneously, the Pastoral Care team plans to incorporate drumming as a reflective practice aimed at enhancing social and emotional well-being. These initiatives promise to enrich our students' educational experience and support their holistic development. Keep reading future newsletters for further updates on this evidence-based program.
A4 ART FINALISTS
We are thrilled to showcase our finalists' incredible talent this week. Currently, the artwork of our winners is on display in Wauchope, offering a glimpse into their remarkable achievements. We will feature our winners and those highly commended artists in next term's newsletter.
Greenmeadows Medical Centre Car Park
We ask families to be mindful of not parking in the Greenmeadows Medical car park. Using this car park at school pick up and drop off times or at any other time during school hours, limits access for patients attending their medical appointments. Your consideration is much appreciated.
ST PETER'S DANCE CONCERT INFORMATION
In Term 3, all St Peter’s Primary students will be involved in our school Dance Concert at the Glasshouse. The theme this year is: “2024 By Request”. Julie-Anne is continuing as our professional dance teacher. Each class will be attending and participating in weekly lessons over Term 3.
The dance lessons will provide support to the PE timetable.
Please try NOT TO BOOK any appointments during your child’s dance lesson time.

We are now only days away from our visit from celebrated author/illustrator, Sami Bayly, on Tuesday 2nd July to discuss some of the weird and wonderful creatures featured in her award winning books. This week children have been enjoying Sami’s books in the library and have had the opportunity to colour-in some of her drawings for display on our library entrance. Many students have also been learning about Sami’s work in their classrooms, including our Year 6 students who participated in a guided drawing activity this week.
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, Sami is providing a special opportunity to our school whereby families can pre-order copies of her amazing books that will be personally signed by Sami and distributed to children on the day of her visit! To take advantage of this fantastic opportunity, please access this link Etsy - Shop - Sami Bayly and carefully follow the steps as outlined on the attached flyer:
Please note that this offer closes on the 30th June 2024.
More information about Sami, her amazing books and numerous awards can be found at the following link: Sami Bayly - Author and Illustrator Of All Things Weird and Wonderful
ASHTON SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB
Students were very excited to receive their Issue 4 book orders this week and it was fantastic to see so many students interested in reading. These purchases also earned the school just over $130 in book club rewards which will go towards ordering new books for students to borrow and enjoy in the St Peter’s School Library.
REMIER'S READING CHALLENGE REMINDER
It has been fantastic to see a large number of students register for the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) this year in addition to many students that have participated in this event in previous years. Many students have been keen to explore new and exciting books as part of the challenge and there have already been a number of students that have completed the required number of texts, with many others well on their way. Don’t forget that there is still plenty of time to complete the challenge before it closes on Friday 23rd August 2024.
Further information about the challenge is available to view via the link below.
