UNDERSTANDING THE K-6 STUDENT REPORT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
WHY ARE THERE CHANGES TO THE K-6 STUDENT REPORT?
The NSW Government is reforming the curriculum to streamline and strengthen what is taught in every classroom in NSW, so every student is prepared and ready for their future. The curriculum reform has been informed by consultation with teachers, parents and education experts, and is underpinned by extensive research. Curriculum reform involves changing teaching, learning, assessment and reporting to parents.
The release of the new syllabuses provides the opportunity to revise aspects of the Student Report to align with current research.
“Parents want to know what was taught and how well their child has learnt it, as well as where improvement is needed……. (NESA, 2023)”

KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS 2025
Following on from our successful information session and tour, we have a great number of enrolments already for Kindergarten 2025. As the first round has closed, we are preparing to send out letters next week for families to book an interview at the start of Term 3. Due to the number of enrolments we have received, any current families who may not have already completed an enrolment form need to do so by Wednesday 26th June to ensure they receive a letter for interview at the same time as new families. Please contact the school if you require assistance.
MISSION
ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI CHAPEL MASS
'OUR PLACE' WINTER APPEAL
A big thank you to our very generous community for donating nonperishable food items, toiletries, and/or a gold coin last week for the Our Place Food Drive. We were able to fill over 14 boxes of donations! The Our Place collective is dedicated to assisting community members in need by providing essential services such as free food, clothing, toiletries, health checks, showers, and laundry facilities and a soft entry point to connect with local services in the area. On average, around 50 people access Our Place at the St Agnes’ Parish Youth Hub on a fortnightly basis, with numbers tripling during special events like Pet Day or Free Haircut Day. Your donations will greatly assist in this mission.
ST PETER'S FEAST DAY
RAISING EMOTIONALLY INTELLIGENT CHILDREN
Some parents were privileged to hear Lael Stone share at the Parent Assembly Conference on the weekend. Her message of parents raising emotionally intelligent children is summed up in her Ted Talk below. The school also received a donation of her book which is available to loan through the school library.
ST PETER'S PARENT LIBRARY
Did you know we have a parent library at school with some great strategies to add to your parenting toolkit? You can find a list of resources available to borrow below and families can email amanda.ayres@lism.catholic.edu.au to arrange borrowing of any of these titles through their child's account. The books will then be left at the school office for parents to collect within the week.
Parent Library TitlesFAMILY CONNECT WORKS @ PARENT CUPPA & CHAT THURSDAY MORNINGS
Anabelle Johnson, our school Family Connect worker will be available for a chat during our Thursday morning Parent cuppa & chats in Leary’s Lane. As part of Anabelle’s role, she can provide multiple supports for families such as NDIS applications, referrals to therapeutic supports, access to counselling services and more. Anabelle is a wealth of information on ways to access supports in our community so do reach out! For further access to Anabelle’s service please email: pmacp@lism.catholic.edu.au.
LEARNING
SQUEAKY CLEAN
As part of our ‘States of Matter’ Science Unit, Year 3 students participated in a soap-making workshop. We have been learning about Solids, Liquids and Gases and the changing states of matter. The students first designed their soap, choosing the colour and scent and then discussed the chemical reactions that would occur, such as the changing from a solid, to a liquid and then back to a solid form. We used pure glycerine blocks, which we melted and added dye and essential oils. Some students then chose to add a few sparkles and maybe a small toy. The final products were impressive and we are sure bath time has never been so fun. No excuses for forgetting to use the soap that night!
Parent/Teacher Interviews will be held in Week 10
Year 1 Blue - which will be held in Week 9

ST PETER'S DANCE CONCERT INFORMATION
In Term 3, all St Peter’s Primary students will be involved in our school Dance Concert at the Glasshouse. The theme this year is: “2024 By Request”. Julie-Anne is continuing as our professional dance teacher. Each class will be attending and participating in weekly lessons over Term 3.
The dance lessons will provide support to the PE timetable.
Please try not to book any appointments during your child’s dance lesson time.
We will begin the first week of dance lessons next week in Week 9 of Term 2, due to timetabling circumstances in Term 3.
St Peter’s Dance Concert Class Rehearsal Timetable Week 9 Term 2 2024
2024 By Request
All lessons are in the Don Farrell Hall
The timetable for Term 3 class dance lessons is slightly different and will be in the newsletter next week.
We look forward to returning to the Glasshouse for our dance concert this year. We will again have the opportunity to showcase two dance performances. Ticket prices are $20 each. The tickets for the Dance Concert can be purchased from the Glasshouse - over the phone, in person or on the website. The date when tickets go on sale will be confirmed next term.
Night Performance: Monday 23rd September, 6.00 pm at The Glasshouse, Port Macquarie.
Night Performance: Tuesday 24th September, 6.00 pm at The Glasshouse, Port Macquarie.
The Glasshouse seats 588 people, which equates to 1176 tickets over two evenings. When purchasing tickets, there will be a limit of 4 tickets per transaction, as we would like every family to have the opportunity to attend one night. You will be notified through the newsletter when these tickets will go on sale through the Glasshouse. Updates will also be posted in Postman Pete. There is no need to purchase tickets for students, as there will be a whole school Dance Concert Rehearsal in the Don Farrell Hall on Friday 20th September, Week 9 Term 3, where all children at school will attend as an audience.
Our school band will perform on both nights from 5.40 pm, while guests take their seats. Students performing in the band are required to arrive at 5.20 pm and be signed in at The Dock area on both nights.
It is expected that all children will be at both night performances. It is a team effort and everyone plays an important role in the staging of the class dances.
You will also receive a separate Costume Note, detailing the specific requirements for each individual child in their class group, early next term.
Students will travel by bus to the Glasshouse on the morning of Monday 23rd September in school uniform (not costume) for a technical rehearsal and block (stage orientation) before the night performance.
This rehearsal is essential for a smooth show, so again, please ensure your child can attend.
We will then return to school in time for 3:00pm buses and parent pick-up etc.
The 7 Eisteddfod Dance groups will also have an opportunity to rehearse on stage and perform as part of our Dance Concert before their Eisteddfod Competition on Thursday night 26th September in the same week.
When students arrive at The Glasshouse, parents are asked to sign them in at an assigned area on both evenings of Monday 23rd and Wednesday 24th September at 5.30 pm. Once signed in, it is the policy of The Glasshouse, for safety reasons, that all students stay until the end of the concert on both nights. Afterwards, students can be collected by parents from 3 separate areas, including The Dock, The Foyer and the Upstairs area outside the Meeting Rooms. Further information regarding drop-offs and pick-ups will be provided next term.

The day will finish off with a cosy movie and popcorn.
THE PURPOSE OF OUR PEER SUPPORT SESSION THIS WEEK WAS:
To assist students to recognise bullying and know what to do to address it
We discussed that no form of bullying, harassment or teasing is OK. Remember it is the person being bullied who decides if they are being hurt.
We made statements and discussed the correct responses within our groups, such as:
- Teasing is OK
- People tease each other because they like them
- Bullying happens when you don’t do what someone wants
- It’s not bullying if you can’t see any physical hurt
- It's ok to ignore and leave people out
We discussed the differences between a bystander and an upstander. A way to support friends is by turning from a bystander into an upstander to tackle bullying. Passive bystander behaviour is where you stand by and watch the bullying take place. By not intervening or leaving to seek help you passively contribute to the bullying and further empower the bully. Students may also experience feelings of guilt for not acting at the time.
We read through some possible behaviours that could happen and discussed how to be an upstander in these situations.
- A new student in the class has received several nasty text messages. She shows you. What do you do?
- Some students are waiting at the school gate and calling your friend names, again.
- A student took a ball off another and kicked it away, again.
Next week: The purpose of the session is to look at influences on choices we make and how that can impact on our safety and relationships. We also look at 'pressure' and what it looks and feels like.
Peer Support is held from 12.45pm to 1.30pm - please avoid making appointments during this time.
On Monday, 8 Year 6 students participated in our Dioscean Esports competition, representing our school with enthusiasm and skill.
They competed in Just Dance and Mario Kart, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and sportsmanship while showcasing their talent in digital gaming.
Congratulations to the following students who took home third place in their teams.
Mario Cart | Thomas Allen, Elliot Gardoll, James Wehlow, Acye Perkins |
Just Dance | Indigo McLean, Alexa Merritt, Amelia Newman, Jessie Winter |
