TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY THANKS
We would like to thank the many families who took the opportunity and time to complete the Tell Them From Me survey for 2024. We know that surveys are not everyone’s favourite activity to do and we may feel “over it” when businesses we utilise all seem to want feedback about our experiences. However, this survey is currently one of the main sources of rich feedback we have across our Diocese and assists with patterns in data that help us future plan. Read on in the newsletter to see who were the lucky winners of our prizes, for which we are so grateful of support from our school canteen, “The Local” and Amanda Matthews (a St Peter’s parent).
CHANGE IN PRIESTS IN ST AGNES' PARISH
You may be aware that from time to time, the Bishop of a Diocese is called to make decisions on where priests under his leadership are stationed for a period of time. During the past few weeks, we learned that Fr Roland, who has been in Port Macquarie for a number of years and known to our school for his service, was selected to lead St Mary’s Parish (incorporating Maclean, Yamba and Iluka). We will farewell Fr Roland at the 9:00am Mass this Sunday at St Agnes’ church, followed by a morning tea. As a result of his move, we welcomed Fr Alejo Despacio last weekend, who joins Fr Paul and Fr Prodencio in service to our Parish and schools.
MISSION
WINTER APPEAL FOR 'OUR PLACE'
St Peter’s students were excited to wear their pyjamas to school today and donate a gold coin or non-perishable item for the ‘Our Place’ Winter Woolies Appeal.
Our Place (the above YouTube) is organised by the Port Macquarie Hastings Homelessness Collective, of which St Agnes’ Catholic Parish is a member. Our Place is where vulnerable people can access support and supplies to help them in their time of need. It operates from the St Agnes’ Parish Youth and Community Hub.
Thank you for your generous support today!
ST PETER'S FEAST DAY
We are so excited to have Wildfire coming to celebrate St Peter's Feast Day with us on Monday 1st July (Week 10). They will be providing music ministry for mass and working with grades later in the day. Happy singing (when you sing you pray twice).

INDIGENOUS CULTURE
Collaboration between Leanne Parsons and Josh Wright, two of our Indigenous Education Workers led Year 5 students to build traditional Aboriginal huts, or Ganyah (Humpies). This project was incredibly valuable as it gave students hands-on experience that fostered a deeper understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture and history. By engaging in the construction of Ganyah, students are learning about traditional shelters and gaining insight into the resourcefulness and ingenuity of Indigenous Australians. Additionally, having the opportunity for other classes to view the Ganyah and listen to Leanne's insights likely contributed to a broader awareness and respect for Indigenous perspectives within the school community.

A4 ART VIEWING
Students and staff had the opportunity this week to view a diverse selection of artworks at A4 Art. With 143 finalists chosen from 480 shortlisted artworks, there was a wide range of creative expression on display. Both students and staff voted for their two favorite artworks in the Community Choice Award. This interactive element to the event fosters a sense of involvement and ownership within the community, celebrating the talents of young artists and promoting a culture of creativity and expression across St Agnes' Parish Schools.
A4 ART FINALISTS
Congratulations Athena and Madeline Goldie
During ArtWalk last Friday, Athena and Madeline Goldie, finalists in the A4 Art competition, were interviewed regarding their artwork. Their interviews offered a valuable opportunity for the audience to gain insight into their creative process and the inspiration behind their artworks.
BOOK WEEK CELEBRATIONS: AUTHOR VISIT
In the build-up to book week next Term, we have a number of activities in the pipeline, the first of which is an upcoming author visit from Australian author/illustrator Sami Bayly.
This week we were so excited to receive confirmation that Sami will be visiting St Peter’s on Tuesday 2nd July (Week 10) to discuss some of the weird and wonderful creatures featured in her award winning books. Over the course of the day, all students will get an opportunity to participate in one of four engaging sessions with Sami, learning interesting facts about some of our lesser known creatures, participating in quizzes and even getting the chance to participate in a unique drawing activity!
Sami loves all things weird and wonderful and enjoys painting realistic flora and fauna. Since completing her bachelor degree in Natural History Illustration, Sami has published 5 books, 3 of which form part of the Illustrated Encyclopaedia series and her most recent two books focusing on stories of animal evolution. Sami also has a new book, “The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Extinct Animals”, which is due for release in September this year.
Many of our students at St Peter’s will be familiar with Sami’s books, which are available to students in our school library and are also utilised in the classroom during learning activities. Those participating in the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge may also recognise Sami’s artwork in this year’s promotional poster, which draws inspiration from a large number of plants and animals featured in Australian children’s literature.
