REMINDER ABOUT GATE OPENING IN THE MORNING
We remind families that the entry gate opens at 8.00am each morning, so students are able to be dropped off. This particularly supports students and their siblings who attend early activities such as Band and Dance Eisteddfod practices. We reminded students at assembly this week about appropriate behaviour outside the gates as some children are arriving before 8.00am and waiting outside. Unfortunately there have been disrespectful comments and behaviour from a small number of students in the mornings to staff. Please remind your child that you support our school to be a place of safety and respect at all times.
KINDERGARTEN 2025 ENROLMENTS
It was wonderful last Saturday to have so many visitors to St Peter’s to hear a little about our school and how it works within our Parish. I particularly thank our staff members who assisted on the day with being able to support the session. Even if families were unable to attend this session, all prospective parents are welcome to attend our upcoming tour. We also remind current and prospective families to complete enrolment forms for Kindergarten 2025. The demand is high for places in our Parish Schools for 2025, so make sure you don’t miss out on a place. Important dates to be aware of:
- Saturday 1st June @ 2pm - School tour
- Friday 14th June - Round 1 of applications closes for Parish Principal consideration
- Mid July to mid August - Interviews for placement in 2025
MESSAGE FROM POPE FRANCIS TO CHILDREN
Fr Paul, our Parish Priest, this week sent to us a special letter to be shared with all children from Pope Francis. He has announced the first World Day, which will be held in Rome on 25th and 26th May this year. We provide it here and hope that you will read it with your children and share this lovely message.

MISSION
YEAR 5 CELEBRATION OF THE WORD
Year 5 gathered in the St Peter’s and MacKillop shared chapel this morning for a Celebration of the Word. Today, we celebrated the feast day of Mary, our Lady, Help of Christians. Mary, the mother of Jesus, is the patron saint of Australia. We look to her as our spiritual mother and model of discipleship, given to us by Jesus. Our own mothers and fathers help us grow, learn, and make decisions about the type of people we aspire to be. Our heavenly Mary does the same. She offers us her example to follow, inviting us to “allow Christ to live in our hearts through faith”, just as she did. We thank Fr Roland and all of our parents and friends who were able to join us today.
A Prayer for Mary
Almighty God, deepen in our hearts
our love of Mary Help of Christians.
Through her prayers and under her protection,
may the light of Christ shine over our land.
May Australia be granted harmony, justice and peace.
Grant wisdom to our leaders and integrity to our citizens.
Bless especially the men and women
of the Australian Defence Force and their families.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
Mary Help of Christians, pray for us.
ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI MASS
Year 3 Green attended Mass at St Francis of Assisi Chapel this week. As usual, our students represented our school with great reverence, and Eliza Petitt read beautifully. We value this time with our elderly neighbours and appreciate the opportunity to strengthen our relationship across the St Agnes’ Parish. Year 3 Blue will attend next Wednesday.
'TALKING TO YOUR CHILD ABOUT PUBERTY' RESOURCES
It was great to meet with over 25 parents at last week’s Parent Community Group, and discuss ways we can facilitate healthy conversations with our children around puberty.

DA VINCI DECATHLON
Last Thursday eight, Year 6 students attended SCAS to participate in the Da Vinci Decathlon. The Da Vinci Decathlon is an extremely challenging competition where students compete in many different academic categories. Some of these categories include maths, english, cartography (map reading and geography), among many others. It challenges the depths of your brain, with extremely difficult tasks. There were 3 sessions in the day, the first involving 4 different categories/subjects, the 2nd one containing four different categories, and the last involving only 2. We were given around two hours for each activity and worked cooperatively with our different group members depending on our strengths.
It was a truly challenging day and we are celebrating by achieving 4th place out of 20 schools from around the area!

ENHANCING FAITH THROUGH SPORT
WELL DONE TEAM
Well done to all our 22 students who competed at the Lismore Diocese Cross Country carnival this week. The course is one of the toughest, and combined with a very muddy track, made the course extremely hard. Our athletes as always, gave 100% in representing us. A special well done to Amaya Davis, Cruze Alley, Hunter Pociask, Jai Davis, Mason Duffy, Amelie Abi-Saab and Paige Zvirzdinas who will now travel to Sydney to compete for a Polding spot in Week 6.

JUNIOR AND SENIOR CHOIRS
A group of 70 St Peter’s Choir students visited MacKillop theatre on Wednesday morning for an amazing experience with MacKillop's Praise singers and choir who shared their beautiful voices and musical talents with us. The St Peter’s Choir had the opportunity to sing along with the MacKillop choir to some new songs, as well as performing one of our songs to them. MacKillop students gifted us with some cups, after showing us their awesome performance of The Cup Song. Our challenge now is to practise The Cup Song and perform with the MacKillop Choir later in the year. The message of the time spent together was the way in which enjoying singing helps us experience benefits to learning, wellbeing and positivity.
ST PETER'S CHOIR @ MASS ON SUNDAY
26TH MAY - 5.00PM
There is an opportunity for any of our Choir students to sing at our Parish Mass this Sunday, 26th May, at 5.00pm. This would be a great opportunity for the students to be a part of our faith community.
All families are welcome to attend.
We are once again excited to offer students the opportunity to showcase their talents in the Port Macquarie Speech and Drama Eisteddfod.
The annual event offers a friendly, community-based platform for students to demonstrate their reading, speaking and dramatic skills. There are always plenty of prizes, big smiles, and happy faces! You will find that there is a range of SPEAKING, READING and PERFORMING sections.
Please note in 2024 the addition of the Prepared Speech section, in which students can deliver any speech they have written. Students are also able to read or recite any piece they have written in their Own Composition section.
The syllabus is attached for your reference on the link below:

ALIA NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME 2024
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in many different settings around the country.
We celebrated this year’s chosen book, “Bowerbird Blues” by Aura Parker, at St Peter’s this week with a themed Library display and opportunities for students to read and listen to the story as well as other titles written and illustrated by the author. There were also opportunities for students to learn more about the biology and behaviour of the “Satin Bowerbird”, which was the star of this year’s chosen book, through a variety of books, videos and craft activities. A number of classes also tuned in to watch the live reading of the book by the author on Wednesday at 12pm, along with many other schools all over the country.
ASHTON SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB
Students were very excited to receive their Issue 3 book orders this week and it was fantastic to see so many students interested in reading. These purchases also earned the school just over $160 in book club rewards which will go towards ordering new books for students to borrow and enjoy in the St Peter’s School Library.
