MOTHER'S DAY @ ST PETER'S
Please enjoy the prayer and choir performances from last week’s Mother’s Day event.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
Year 4 joined Mrs Baird for a First Holy Communion Retreat today in preparation for the Sacrament next week. The day commenced with a Celebration of the Word with some of our parents and friends in attendance, followed by a number of interactive activities and prayers to help the candidates prepare for this important step in their sacramental journey, where they become full members of the Catholic church. We hold these children in our prayers.
YEAR 5 CELEBRATION OF THE WORD
NEXT WEEK.... FRIDAY 24TH MAY
TELL THEM FROM SURVEY...... OPEN !
We have one final week to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey.
Tell Them From Me Survey - Link.
The survey will be anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Our school goal is to have over 100 families to complete the survey.
We have already had over 50 families complete the survey!
We are halfway there!
Well done!
Each survey entry will receive a coffee voucher and go into the draw to win some fabulous prizes. You can enter your name into the prize draw by writing your name on the clipboard in the office or email pmacp@lism.catholic.edu.au to enter your name and receive your coffee voucher (it’s an honesty based system).
Leary’s Lane will be open Thursday morning from 8.00am with some Ipads if you would prefer to complete the survey after school drop off.
ST PETER'S MUMS NIGHT OUT
SATURDAY 18TH MAY
PARENT ASSEMBLY CONFERENCE
St Peter’s offers many opportunities for students to be involved in academic extra curricular learning that extend ability and nurture passions. Selected students in Years 4, 5 and 6 have been involved in Mathematical problem solving clinics with Mr Gallery each week. This week’s challenge was The Knight's Tour.
The Knight’s Tour is a classic problem in combinatorial optimisation and recreational mathematics (Yes, there is such a thing)
The puzzler starts by writing the number 1 in any square on an 8 x 8 grid, and then moves as a chess knight moves - in a capital ‘L’ shape, writing the number 2 on the square that they land on. For the next move the puzzler records the number 3, then 4 and so on. The challenge is to complete the grid by recording 64 legal moves, visiting each square exactly once.
So far only 3 students have had the persistence and skill to crack the puzzle and reach 64. A huge congratulations and well done to Kaiya, Bradley and Emanuel from Year 5 who worked out successful strategies to hit all 64 squares. We look forward to sharing more outstanding learning from talented Mathematicians in coming weeks.

SPORT QUESTIONS ?
Sport is very big at St Peter’s and every week there are many opportunities that we offer. Each year, we have a new cohort who enter our Pathway Sports, as well as many new families. YEARS 3 AND 4 GLASSHOUSE SHOW
The Alphabet of Awesome Science
Professors Lexi Con and Noel Edge (the Word Nerd and the Science Freak) took us on a thrilling voyage through the alphabet — where great big chewy sesquipedalian words inspire mind-blowing scientific surprises.
Professor Lexi Con curated a curious collection of her favourite words (one for every letter of the alphabet) with each word providing Professor Noel Edge with an inspirational jumping off point for 26 quirky scientific demonstrations – that squish and squirt, float and fly, erupt and explode.
YEAR 3 HISTORY EXCURSION
On Thursday 16th May, our Year 3 students were fortunate in experiencing an excursion to St Thomas’ Church, The Port Macquarie Historic Museum, Port Macquarie Historic Courthouse, and a final stop on Town Green. We had many compliments on the manners and respect our students displayed at each of these venues. All of the teachers were very impressed with the students’ enthusiasm, participation and behaviour during our visits. Our visit to the Historic Courthouse provided an opportunity for students to role play a mock trial from the 1800’s. Our students wholeheartedly engaged with their roles. We are very grateful to all venues for their time and support in helping our students gain a clearer understanding of Port Macquarie’s history.
DISCO
YEAR 6 CAMP FUNDRAISER
Year 6 would like to thank everyone for supporting their Year 6 Camp by having a wonderful PJ Disco Party last night.
PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE REMINDER
It has been fantastic to see a large number of students register for the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) this year in addition to many students that have participated in this event in previous years. Many students have been keen to explore new and exciting books as part of the challenge and there have already been a number of students that have completed the required number of texts, with many others well on their way. Don’t forget that there is still plenty of time to complete the challenge and it is not too late to register if your child is interested in participating, before the challenge closes on Friday 23rd August 2024.
Further information about the challenge is available to view via the link below.
2024 NSW Premier's Reading Challenge - Link
How to Log Books on the PRC Site:
A friendly reminder that all student reading records must be completed by 11:59pm on Friday 23 August, 2024 so that validation can occur. Only students who have a completed and validated reading record will receive a PRC certificate.
If you have any issues with logging books or you would like to register your child for the challenge, please email Mrs Amanda Ayres at amanda.ayres@lism.catholic.edu.au
ALIA NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME 2024
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in many different settings around the country. Now in its 24th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
Next week at St Peter’s we will be celebrating this year’s chosen book, “Bowerbird Blues” by Aura Parker with a themed library display and opportunities for students to read and listen to the story and participate in learning associated with the book. There will also be a number of other titles by the author as well as a number of other books about Bowerbirds available for students to enjoy.

SICK KIDS
What happens to my child's Lunch order if they are unwell?
If your child is staying at home and you have already placed a lunch order through Flexischools, please call the office by 9:30am to let us know. The office will contact the Canteen so that we can put a stop on your order. This needs to be done by 9:30am as most hot food is in the ovens at that time. Your child's order will be held until you let us know that they are ready for it. If your child has to go home before Lunch 1 due to feeling unwell, let the office know that they have a lunch order when you collect them and we can send the lunch order home with you.
