PARENT COMMUNITY GROUP - Feedback
Last week, during our school disco sessions, we hosted our first Parent Community Group event, seeking feedback on a few of our identified areas for this year. We will collate the data from these sessions with the digital forms and find a sense of what you are feeling about these areas. We will also seek staff and student voice around some of these for a well-rounded perspective on school life.
STUDENT INVOLVEMENT IN SCHOOL AND PARISH LIFE
The involvement of our students in school and Parish life beyond the classroom is extensive and valuable. During a weekend Mass two weeks ago, a group of students attended Mass on Sunday evening and provided beautiful singing which lifted the worship by our Parish community. We also had some children attend the Reconciliation services this week to commit to helping in a special way. We thank our students for their enthusiasm to do this as well as their parents for getting them there.
MISSION
RECONCILIATION
This week, over 25 students from St Peter’s joined other children in the St Agnes’ Parish to make their Sacrament of First Reconciliation. The week started with a special Retreat Day for all of Year 4, where the children participated in learning, praying and celebrating God’s love and forgiveness, led by Mrs Baird and our Regional Ministry Assistants, Jacob and Jaz. To cap off this special event, Mr Arkinstall and the Year 4 teachers provided a hot chip lunch!
The candidates then attended one of three Reconciliation Ceremonies at St Agnes’ Church on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings to complete the sacrament. Thank you to the teachers, parents, Mrs Baird and Mrs Morris, for helping our little people prepare for this sacrament. A special thank you also to all the staff across the three parish primary schools who came along on the three evenings to support the candidates as they completed this special step in their sacramental journey.

LEARNING
KINDERGARTEN LEARNING
This term in Kindergarten, students have been reading many different stories and discussing the characters and events within them. They are learning to use their facial expressions and voice in role plays, their creative and artistic talents in Art, their growing awareness and understanding of letters and sounds in Writing and their abundance of enthusiasm and focus across all their learning. Kindergarten students also shared their own favourite characters and had a go at copying their names onto their drawings.
Here are some of their creative artworks about the main characters from Edward the Emu and Alexander’s Outing and their favourite characters.
This week, after exploring Pig the Pug and Pig the Fibber, students drew their own dogs. They gave them a name and after learning about adjective and verbs, students began to experiment with using these to finish a sentence about their dogs. Each class then recorded their pages and have a finished book in their rooms to enjoy. Here are each of the Kindergarten classes finished books that they wrote and illustrated.
ATTENDANCE
Setting the expectation for your child to be at school every day is a fundamental aspect of fostering a positive attitude toward education and establishing good attendance habits.
Clearly communicate to your child that attending school regularly is a top priority. If your child faces challenges related to attendance, such as reluctance or anxiety about going to school, address these issues promptly. Open communication with the school can help identify and resolve any underlying concerns.

PBS - World Harmony Day Celebrations @ St Peter's
Thursday 21st March 2024
March 21 is Australia’s Harmony Day, which celebrates the country’s cultural diversity. It coincides with the United Nations’ International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Harmony Day is an Australian Government program that centres on the message that “Everyone belongs”, reinforcing the importance of inclusiveness to all Australians. Since 1999, thousands of Harmony Day events have been staged in childcare centres, schools, community groups, churches, businesses and federal, state and local government agencies across Australia.
This Miniclip provides you with an overview of the purpose of Harmony Day, what happens on the day, and how everyone can support it by wearing orange and treating each other with respect.
On Thursday 21st March, the children of St Peter’s will be taking part in Harmony Day activities, planned by their teachers. They are invited to wear out-of-uniform with as much orange clothing as they have.
On this day and during Harmony Week we will celebrate the diversity in our classroom and beyond. We can’t wait to share news of the activities that the students participated in next fortnight.

Another chance of a lifetime experience for our students
I am so proud to announce, that past St Peter’s student and swimming legend, Mitchell Falvey will be visiting our senior classes on Thursday, March 21. Mitch is the Owner and Leading Director of The Inner Project, providing coaching services in business, sport, education and government sectors throughout Australia and New Zealand. The Inner Project inspires a better way of thinking so that businesses, teams and people may live their purpose and experience the growth and sustainable success they desire. Previously, Mitch was Head Swimming Coach at Ravenswood School for Girls where the coaches placed 5 swimmers onto Australian Swimming Teams, including an Olympic Medallist. Mitch coached on multiple Australian Teams and was the 2016 NSW Swimming Coach of the Year. His experiences in high-performance coaching included managing and leading a team of professionals and purpose-driven athletes in the pursuit of excellence and world-class performance. He was also the swimming coach of James “The Missile” Magnussen who was the 2011 and 2013 100-metre freestyle world champion and holds the record for the fifth fastest swim in history in the 100-metre freestyle, with a time of 47.10.
Throughout his coaching career, Mitch developed a passion for personal growth, contribution, leadership and of course coaching, realising his own purpose, to share experiences and serve the dreams of others so they too may live their purpose.

We will be celebrating Harmony Week next week in the St Peter’s Library. As part of our celebrations, students will have the opportunity to contribute towards our Harmony Week display by completing a “Harmony Day Hand” as a way of celebrating the diversity within our school.
Students will have an opportunity to complete these hands during morning and lunchtime library sessions or alternatively parents/carers may like to print out a hand from the following document for your child to complete at home. Students can then cut these out and deliver them to the library during the week for inclusion in our display. Please ensure that your child’s name and class is included on the back of the “hand” so that they can be returned to students at the conclusion of harmony week.
