PARENT COMMUNITY GROUP - YOUR VOICE
This week, during our school disco sessions, we hosted out first Parent Community Group event, seeking feedback on a few of our identified areas for this year. We were so pleased and encouraged by the number of parents who engaged in this session, either just chatting with other parents or finding some valuable thoughts to add to our questions. We also value those parents who have responded in our short form sent out with the same questions to engage in. This is the first of the many opportunities that will be provided across the year to engage in dialogue that will make a difference to our school for students and parents. I would like to especially acknowledge Amanda Thomas for her organisation and facilitation of the evening, and to Rebecca Cameron (AP Mission) and Natalie Jennings (one of our Creative Arts Teachers) for assisting in the evening.
INTRODUCING OUR YEAR 6 LEADERS
MISSION
CELEBRATION OF THE WORD - YEAR 2
The St Peter’s community came together for our first Celebration of the Word for 2024 today. Year 2 listened reverently as Father Roland talked to us about Compassion. Jesus was someone who showed a lot of compassion. He helped sick people feel better, made sad people happy, and was always there for those who needed him. He wanted everyone to feel loved and cared for, just like we should want for others. Being like Jesus means being kind and caring to everyone around us. It means reaching out to help anyone who is hurt or sad, just like Jesus did. Even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone's day!
Thank you Father Roland , and all our family and friends, for coming to celebrate with us today!
CELEBRATION OF THE WORD - YEAR 1

The first Parent Community Group was held at the same time as the student disco last night. Parents gave their voice on the topics below. You can ‘have your say’ via this link below:

2. CREATIVE ARTS - Name the ways St Peter's fosters the creative arts (music, drama and visual arts) and ways you would like to see it further fostered and showcased in the school. Is there a different area you would like to see more of?

LEARNING
ATTENDANCE
HEALTHY SLEEP, EXERCISE AND DIET CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Healthy sleep, exercise, and diet play critical roles in a student's overall wellbeing, impacting not only their physical health but also their cognitive function, emotional regulation and ability to focus.
Encouraging healthy habits early on sets the foundation for a lifetime of wellbeing. Children who learn the importance of sleep, exercise and a balanced diet are more likely to carry these habits into adolescence and adulthood, impacting their overall attendance and success in school.
YEAR 4 WRITING - COMPLEX FUN !
This Week in Year 4 Mrs Turner, Mrs Tink and Mr Arkinstall have been teaching their students the art of Narrative writing. Teaching Year 4 students to write presents unique challenges due to students’ developmental stage and varying skill levels. In Year 4, children are transitioning from basic writing skills to more complex composition. They're still mastering fundamental grammar, punctuation, and spelling rules, making it difficult to tackle more sophisticated writing tasks.
Additionally, Year 4 students have diverse talents and abilities, requiring teachers to accommodate individual learning styles and provide tailored feedback, instruction and student goals. Some students may struggle with organising their thoughts coherently, while others may need vocabulary development or improved handwriting fluency. Keeping students motivated and enthusiastic about writing is crucial to their development.
Furthermore, incorporating technology into writing instruction can be both beneficial and challenging. While technology offers innovative tools for creativity and expression, it also requires educators to navigate digital literacy skills and manage screen time effectively.
Teaching Year 4 students to write demands patience, creativity, and flexibility. It requires a balance of scaffolded instruction, differentiated learning experiences, and ongoing support to foster their writing skills effectively. Here we have some Year 4 authors deep in The Learning Pit, creating stories based on the mysteries of ‘The Box’.

For the next ten minutes, the six House Captains gave me idea after idea about what they could do. They were also very open to my ideas as well. We spoke about the House Captains badge and the huge amount of pride that must be carried by each House Captain. The ideas that were discussed were:

YEAR 5 CAMP FUNDRAISER
Thank you everyone for supporting the Year 5 Camp Fundraiser - the children all had a GREAT time with some very groovy moves !!!!
On Monday students participated in an ‘Emu Bob’ around the school. Whilst our school always looks so beautifully presented, it is always so surprising, to find so many small pieces of rubbish concealed in gardens, vegetation and next to our walkways. This small-scale clean-up is to show our support for ‘Clean Up Australia Day’ last Sunday and fits in with our current focus value of ‘Being Respectful’, with particular emphasis on respect toward our classroom and outside school environments.
THERE HAS BEEN A REPORT OF HEAD LICE ACROSS THE GRADES
The recurrence of head lice and treatment can be a very frustrating and expensive experience for families and your assistance is urgently sought in an effort to STOP THE CYCLE. Head lice are most common among primary school aged children and are spread by direct contact with the hair of the infested individual. Head lice are rarely transferred through clothing, hats, furniture or bedding.
Please take time to check your child’s hair - be diligent with your checking and treatment if lice or nits (eggs) are detected. It is extremely important to make sure that ALL eggs are removed. If we work together we can eliminate this problem quickly and stop the re infestation!
Our School policy on Head Lice is located in our Family Information Handbook and is printed below for your information.
Thank you for your consideration.
If children have head lice, it is suggested that parents:
- Check all other members of the family;
- Shampoo with one of the preparations from the chemist;
- NOTIFY THE SCHOOL
- Keep the children home until all the eggs have been removed;
- Wash all clothing in hot water with a little of the shampoo
- Keep long hair tied back;
- Impress on children not to play with, or comb, each other’s hair, borrow or swap hats.
NOTE
- It is requested not to shampoo as a precautionary measure as overuse may be dangerous.
- Regular checking of children’s hair is the responsibly of parents.
- Children will be sent home if head lice are detected at school.
