PARENT COMMUNITY GROUP - YOUR VOICE
THURSDAY 7TH MARCH - DURING THE DISCO
Last year we went through a process to select a new model of partnership with parents, our community and our school. We voted in the more informal model, which will focus more on building our community and seeking parent involvement and feedback in areas of school improvement. We will launch this new partnership with our first event of the year (see below for more details). This is an opportunity to give your voice to specific areas we are looking at currently, and to continue doing so across the year. We will provide notice ahead of each event so that you are able to contribute in person or in writing. We look forward to seeing you next week.
MISSION
LENT
During Lent, we are asked to give, pray and fast in our quest to get to know Jesus better. When fasting, we often think of material things to give up, like treats, but another way of thinking is to give up negative emotions and replace them with positive thoughts.
OPENING SCHOOL MASS
The St Peter’s community celebrated our new year with our Opening School Mass on Wednesday. It was wonderful to worship and give thanks for the new school year with our parents and friends.
Following Mass, we presented our 2024 leaders with their badges.
We thank all of the students who were involved, Fr Prodencio for celebrating our Mass, and all our family and friends who were able to join us.
INCITARE
This week, 12 of our Year 6 students joined with students from across the Hastings to participate in Incitare. Incitare is a retreat experience coordinated by the Diocese of Lismore where our young people get together to share their faith, have fun, and make friends. Check out what some of our participants thought about the day:
It was an amazing experience. I got to meet people from other schools and explore my faith. The main thing that was being discussed over the day was how to have courage, I successfully know how to use courage. It was so fun, I ponder about my faith and heard some other people share their faith journey. Overall, it was amazing and I would go again!! Madeline Goldie |
At Incitare I loved meeting all the new people, playing games and learning with others. It helped me learn more about my faith and God. Mitchell Bransdon |
Incitare was a fun experience with other Year 6 students, we got to meet new people and play games. I learnt more about God in groups with people from other schools and two Year 10 Leaders. It was awesome!! Indigo McLean |
Incitare was a nice experience for me, because I met some new and great friends. I enjoyed it very much, I will definitely go again in the future. Ayce Perkins |
Thank you to Mrs Packer for accompanying our students and Mrs Baird, the Hastings Incitare Facilitator, for leading the day.

LEARNING
ATTENDANCE
Good attendance in Primary School will be a skill that will help them succeed in High School.
Good attendance in primary school is a fundamental building block for academic success and overall wellbeing, and it sets the stage for success in high school and beyond. Primary school is the foundational stage of a child's education. Regular attendance ensures that children build a solid understanding of fundamental concepts and skills that serve as the basis for more advanced learning in high school.
By recognising the long-term benefits and reinforcing the importance of regular school attendance in primary years, students are better equipped to succeed in high school and beyond. Attending school regularly instils a sense of responsibility and work ethic in students and participating actively in class are essential components of success.

We have Mrs Ryan convening the Lismore Diocese Netball Trial, Mrs Kipreotis is the Convenor of the Lismore Diocese Hockey Trial and Miss McKenzie is the Hastings Zone Netball Coach. We are very fortunate to have the above staff role modelling and displaying a wealth of knowledge in your specific sports.
FIT CLUB
As you may know, Fit Club has been a tradition for many years now. We are very aware of the benefits of being active and running Fit Club twice a week gives students an opportunity to improve physical health by improving co-ordination, movement and balance, strengthens bones, muscles and helps to stabilise blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Further to the physical benefits, there are many social benefits. Some of the social benefits are developing many of the social skills they will need throughout life. It teaches children to cooperate, be less selfish, and to listen to other children. It also gives children a sense of belonging. It helps them make new friends and builds their social circle.
A huge thank you to Mrs Kipreotis and Miss Fowler, who give up their mornings to give hundreds of children the opportunity to get out and be active. This term, Fit Club is open to all students from Years 1-6 commencing at 8:20am leaving from the basketball court. We can’t wait to see your child at Fit Club.

BEING RESPECTFUL
STEP UP TO CLEAN UP
MONDAY 4TH MARCH
On Monday 4th March all students will participate in an ‘Emu Bob’ around the school. Whilst our school always looks so beautifully presented, it is always so surprising, to find so many small pieces of rubbish concealed in gardens, vegetation and next to our walkways. This small-scale clean-up is to show our support for ‘Clean Up Australia Day’ (Sunday 3rd March) and fits in with our current focus value of ‘Being Respectful’, with particular emphasis on respect toward our classroom and outside school environments.
