St Peter’s School Community Generously Supports Christmas Appeal
The St Peter’s school community celebrated a fun and festive day filled with the spirit of Christmas last Friday and raised an astonishing $3,460.00!!!!
The last two years have presented our school and wider community with many challenges, yet the generosity of our families is unwavering when it comes to helping people in need. We are so grateful to have such spirit filled support.
The money raised will go towards the provision of Christmas Hampers for a number of families in need. Thank you!
Farewell Fr Peter
It has been a week of farewell for our very own Fr Peter Wood, who headed north today to take up the post of Administrator of the Murwillumbah Parish to assist Fr Anthony Lemon who is on extended leave. Fr Peter started with our Parish on 28th November, 2014 and during that time we have been blessed by his dedicated and authentic pastoral manner, his endearing sense of humour and his amazing work as Priest, Chaplain and colleague. There is plenty we will miss about Fr Peter, not least his contagious laughter and love of a good sing along. We wish Fr Peter all the best in this next chapter.
FAMILY FEEDBACK: PARENT/CARER- SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP
In the recent Family Partnership and Feedback Survey 2021, the following 3 questions present data related to family-school partnership.
- There is good two-way communication between the staff and parents at St Peter's Primary School.
- The staff at St Peter's Primary School understand the importance of partnering with parents to help students achieve their full potential.
Baby McGrath
The McGrath’s welcomed a new addition to their family last Monday, a beautiful baby boy! Mum (Alice, Year 6 Blue Teacher this year) tells us he was well worth the wait and they are all doing well, although Aurora was quite put out that COVID restrictions wouldn’t allow her to visit her baby brother in hospital! We offer the McGrath family our congratulations at this very special time!
Year 6 Graduation
Our Year 6 class of 2021 have proven to be a very special bunch of young people. Their leadership, compassion for others and sense of community have contributed something quite special to our St Peter’s community. Over the last couple of weeks they have been confronted with many disappointments, including the cancellation of camp and their transition program into Year 7, yet their positivity and optimism have not wavered. As they prepare for their Graduation Mass next Tuesday, we ask you to keep them in your prayers. We know, without a doubt, these people will continue to make a positive difference in the world.
STONEY AQUA PARK - RELIEVES CAMP DISAPPOINTMENT
Our Year 5 and 6 young people enjoyed a cool ‘wipeout day’ at ‘Stony Aqua Park’ today.
The disappointment of missing out on camp was overshadowed by the great challenge and fun derived through the challenges set out at Stoney Aqua Park.
Sincere thanks to our senior staff for organising the day and entering into the wonderful spirit shared through the exchanges and fun experienced by the students.
We also thank Stoney Aqua Park‘s staff for being great facilitators and offering support to make the children’s day a great memory.
The pictures tell the story.
Year 5 ....
Year 6 ....
The last clip is a rather ordinary attempt from Mr Leary to master a backward somersault. Though he thought he had completed the discipline well, he looked up to see his loyal staff holding up cards with very humble totals.
Safety Town
During the school holidays remind your children of key road safety messages. Help them to regularly practice their road safety skills whenever you are out and about. Check out these learning resources on Safety Town.
MISSION
Advent
This Sunday marks the beginning of Advent and the commencement of the new
church year. The word Advent comes from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming.” It is a time of expectant waiting in the lead up to Christmas. Whilst preparing for Christmas brings to mind decorations and present buying, the Christian preparation for Christmas focuses on remembering and preparing for the birth of Jesus. As we busy ourselves in the lead up to Christmas, decorating the tree, wrapping gifts, enjoying the festive season, let us not forget to also spend time preparing our hearts to receive Jesus.
Make your own Advent Wreath
It's easy to make your own Advent Wreath at home, all you need is some greenery, or even a store bought Christmas wreath, and some candles (battery operated ones are a good idea for little fingers).
The Advent wreath is a traditional centrepiece leading up to the Christmas season. A candle is lit on each of the four Sundays preceding Christmas.
The first candle (violet) represents hope, the second (violet) peace, the third (rose) joy, and the fourth (violet) love. The central white candle is lit on Christmas Day and represents Christ.
The word ‘advent’ means ‘coming’; lighting the candles on the Advent wreath symbolises the coming of Light (Jesus) into the world. The Advent Wreath teaches us about Christian preparation for celebrating Jesus’ birth and making our hearts truly ready to receive Him. The Advent Wreath can be a way to involve even very little children in learning about Christian preparation for celebrating Jesus’ birth and making our hearts truly ready to receive Him.
Lighting the Advent Wreath can be incorporated into daily life, or even just each Sunday. As each week’s candle is lit, there is a special prayer to say:
First Sunday of Advent
Jesus, you are light even in the darkest places. Help us to trust in you when we are lost or lonely. Shine hope into our hearts we pray. Amen.
Second Sunday of Advent
Jesus, you are peace even when there is hatred. Help us to forgive like you when we are hurt or wounded. Bring peace into our hearts we pray. Amen.
Third Sunday of Advent
Jesus, you are joy even in the saddest times. Help us to praise you when we are upset or grieving. Shine joy into our hearts we pray. Amen.
Fourth Sunday of Advent
Jesus, you are with us even when we are afraid. Help us to pray to you when we are scared or fearful. Bring love into our hearts we pray. Amen.
Christmas Day
Jesus, you came to be light in our darkness. Jesus, you came to be peace in our conflicts. Jesus, you came to be joy in our sadness, And to bring your love in our fears. Today we celebrate your birth. Thank you for your saving grace. Amen.
LEARNING
Precision In Practice - English Planning for 2022 Underway
For the past 2 weeks teams of teachers have been collaborating to plan English teaching programs for Term 1 2022. Our English programs are being specifically designed by our teachers to develop students’ understanding of how to be an independent, motivated and reflective learner who knows how they are going with their learning and the next steps needed for improvement.
Students will be able to articulate what they are learning, how they are going, be provided with feedback from their teachers, provide and receive feedback from their peers and set learning goals in writing - and other key learning areas. The work undertaken over the past 2 weeks is the latest stage in our Precision In Practice initiative which has been the foundation of teacher professional learning at St Peter’s in recent years.
We are looking forward to implementing the programs in 2022 and seeing the positive impact that they have on our students.

Meet Another Polding Member
Name: Noah Pociask
Year: 6 Blue
Polding Representative Sport: Tennis and Athletics
Other St Peters Representative Sports: Soccer, Cross Country, Swimming.
Favourite Sports: Tennis, Soccer, Basketball, Touch Football, High Jump, Futsal.
What is your most memorable Sporting memory at St Peter’s and Why?
I have so many!
A couple are, making my first Polding team in athletics in Year 4 and winning a zone cross country.
The reasons are, making a Polding team is not easy and it is a proud moment when you are selected. The win at cross country zone was special as I really believed in myself that day and had confidence.
Do you have any advice to give future sports stars at St Peter’s?
If you have a dream, you need to believe in yourself. Have the confidence to try and the strength to put in the hard work for training.
“ You will miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” .......Micheal Jordan
Even if you don’t make a team first try, get up and try again. You don’t have to be the best at something to enjoy it.
Who do you admire to be like as a sporting person and why?
Roger Federer - he is a great sportsperson. Probably the greatest of all time in tennis. He is so talented but also displays great sportsmanship.
I want to be like him as I want to be great in my sport, but I also want people to respect me as a person and my values.
What are your future sporting plans?
My future sporting plans are to become a professional tennis player and to win the Australian Open. This will require hard work and effort but if you put your mind to anything, you can achieve anything. With the support of my family and my coach, nothing is impossible and that is something that I have to remember.
Thank you Noah....
