FAREWELL TO MRS ALLEY
Yesterday we farewelled Mrs Jessica Alley, our fabulous third teacher in the Year 2 space. Jess joined us at the beginning of Term 2 to support the learning and pastoral care of the large number of students in the two Year 2 classes. A significant amount of funding was available for St Peter’s to employ Jess in order to focus on the individual needs of the students over the last two and a half terms, a role that she has certainly excelled in.
On behalf of the St Peter’s community and particularly the Year 2 team, I would like to warmly thank Jess for the great job she has done for most of this year. We are very grateful to have had her expertise and dedication supporting our children in Year 2 and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
GREAT RESPONSE TO ‘FAMILY PARTNERSHIP AND FEEDBACK’ SURVEY HOMEWORK
Families conscientiously set out to complete their homework last week and 155 families engaged in the ‘Family Partnership and Feedback Survey.’ A very significant increase to the numbers that have responded over previous years.
We are very thankful to our children (‘encouragers’) and our parents (‘responders’) in providing such extensive feedback, which will assist in our development of the 2022 School Improvement Plan.
Below are the results from the ‘Catholic Identity and Mission Section.’ We will continue to share results over the coming weeks.

We are beyond excited to have our brand new Kindergarten 2022 students join us for transition!

On 6th December, we invite the whole grade in for a longer session together. There will be play, stories and craft with a tour around the school to enjoy.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY - NEXT WEDNESDAY
A reminder that next Wednesday 10 November is a staff development day at St Peter’s. Students are not required to attend on this day. Child minding will be available. The staff will be learning together with a focus on how to help our students achieve success in their learning. This learning is guided by the work of Dr Lyn Sharratt, an international expert in education who works tirelessly to increase each student’s growth and achievement so that excellence can be a reality for all students.
PART TWO - WELL I'LL BEE.....
We were very privileged last Thursday to have Dr Francisco Garcia come to visit. Dr Garcia, an Entomologist has travelled the world studying native bees in many different countries. He is so passionate about native bees and loves educating people about them. Year 2 were so lucky to have him with us for 2 hours to talk to us all about the native bees of Australia and then to help us place our native bee hive into their new home in our bee garden.
All Saints Day
In November each year, we focus on the great communion of saints – On All Saints Day (Nov 1), we focus on the wonderful company of saints we know as part of the reality of our Catholic tradition; On All Souls Day (Nov 2), we especially remember all those who have died – Friends, colleagues, relatives …… Other leaders whom we have known …worked with …laughed with …wept with …walked with … Many of them are not famous. Their statues are not in churches but their pictures are in our homes and their stories alive in our community, and in us. We know of their goodness and their struggles. We pray for them, and remember them with love, celebrating in faith their journey to God, now within the great communion of saints.
Let us pray…
May all the Saints pray for us and for all those whose lives we touch.
May God, Who loves and holds us all,
let the Spirit guide all our days
in the ways of compassion and justice,
May we reflect the heart of God,
sure in faith,
strong in hope,
built on love
and become all that we are called to be.
And may our journey lead us into God’s gentle and almighty Presence, our God whom we will one day
see face to face.
Amen.
Those whom we love and lose
are no longer where they were before.
They are now wherever we are.
St John Chrysostom
The Creative Arts
The study of the Creative Arts enables students to engage with and enjoy exploring expressive forms, ideas, and values. The creative arts provide opportunities to enchant, explore, investigate and respond to the world through making and performing.Through creative arts students experience and develop the complex skills required to create and test ideas, generate creative works with confidence, shape inquiry and critically evaluate and reflect on what they do.
Research suggests some of the benefits of participating in the creative arts are:
- Improved mood
- Improved self esteem
- Improved social interactions
- Improved cognitive function and the alleviation of stress.
Year 1 were experimenting with different musical instruments in Music and in Drama they were responding to a story through a group performance.
Year 6 Reader’s Theatre Presentations
Kinder have been learning about loud and soft noises, students were given a percussion instrument to play during the song "I hear Thunder". The students took turns with both soft and loud percussion instruments. It was fun to make a loud sound like thunder!

Meet Another Polding Representative for 2021
Name: Lily Rowlatt
Year: 6 Green
Polding Representative Sport: Hockey
Favourite Sports: Hockey, Touch
What is your most memorable sporting memory at St Peter’s and why?
My favourite sporting memory at St Peters was representing our school at PSSA. I enjoyed this because not only was I proud to be at that level, I was also representing my school, making new friends and increasing my knowledge.
Do you have any advice to give future sports stars at St Peter’s?
My advice for future sport stars is never give up and train whenever you can, because although selections seem nerve wracking and tiring, being selected for a team is a great feeling (especially if you have worked hard for it) and even if you don't get selected, keep trying because showing your commitment to the sport you love will be recognized along with hard work.
Who do you admire as a sporting person and why?
I admire Emily Chalker (the Australian women's hockey team captain), because when she started her career she was told she wasn't good enough and was too short. But she didn't let that stop her. So I admire her persistence.
What are your future sporting plans?
My future plans for sports are to keep training and putting in extra effort, because I know it pays off. I also would like to continue playing hockey at whatever level!
Thank you Lily....
Summer Sports
Due to COVID restrictions, at this stage, the Lismore diocese Trials for Basketball and Tennis are planned for early December in Lismore. Students will receive information shortly if they have met the criteria. In regards to Touch Football, we have announced a squad. We need to get this to a team of 10 boys and 10 girls. With the current restrictions, Zone Touch Trials may occur later in the year after school hours. We will keep you posted as to any decision. Softball and Cricket are on hold until further notice.
Winter Sports
Shortly, we will be calling for registration for the 2022 Winter Sports Zone Trial. The sports for Years 4 and 5 will be: Rugby League, Rugby Union, Hockey, Netball and Soccer. Trials will occur at school for all events and as always, teams will be selected primarily on each child’s PBS Values and lastly on their sporting skills. There will be selection criteria for certain sports.
School Swimming Carnival
Our Swimming Carnival has now been moved to Monday November 29. We also have a backup date of December 9.
Due to current COVID restrictions, we will have a School Swimming Carnival, however, it will only be a competitive swimming carnival.
There will be no non competitive races held this year. A Competitive Swimming Carnival note for Years 3-6 will be sent home on Monday Week 6, and must be returned (if you wish your child to compete) by the Friday of Week 6, 12th November. No late registrations will be accepted.
Any student who doesn’t return the Competitive Swimming Carnival note, will attend school as they normally would.
Although our Swimming Carnival is normally for Years 3-6, we do have a very small number of Year 1 and 2 students attend the carnival. A separate note for Years 1 and 2 will also be sent home with students on Monday. This note will detail specifications for attending the day.
In terms of families attending, due to COVID restrictions, family members can attend the carnival, but must volunteer on the day in a timekeeping role. You will need to register via the Competitive Swimming Carnival note and your name will be at the entrance of the pool. Also, you must be double vaxed to enter the pool. Spectators won’t be permitted into the venue.
