A RELAXED FINISH TO A HECTIC TERM
It was really good to see children and staff enjoying each other’s company and a relaxed conclusion to what has been quite a hectic term.
Lockdown, level 3 restrictions, blended learning, vulnerable circumstances, mask wearing, social distancing, google classrooms, seesaw, zoom sessions have all contributed to a unique and complex learning and ‘lifescape.’
I had a walk around the playground just before lunch and during lunch, and caught glimpses of a relaxed and happy atmosphere.
We hope you enjoy the glimpses:
Year 3 Green active on the fitness circuit
Year 6 prepping for Graduation
Year 6 and Kindergarten enjoying their first lunch break
THE STAFF WISH OUR FAMILIES A MOST ENJOYABLE HOLIDAY!
Our staff hope and pray that our families have an opportunity to embrace whatever it is, your family needs over the next two weeks.
We would like to pass on my very sincere thanks to staff and families for your wonderful support through Term 3.
We feel very privileged to be a part of our community and look really forward to finishing the year with perhaps a little more opportunity and chance to connect with our families.
Please have a wonderful holiday.
HARD RETURNING TO SCHOOL?
With the recent lockdown and school holidays added on after 1 week return to school, it means most children have only been physically present at school for 1 of 7 weeks.
If families experience any anxiety with children returning next term, please contact the school as early as you can and we will put in place support to assist families and children.
The following poster may provide you with some good ideas and routines to support a confident return to school for our children.
Supporting Your Child's Return to School
Catholic Mission Month
KICK GOALS FOR KIDS IN NEED THIS WORLD MISSION MONTH!
We return for Term 4 as Catholic World Vision Month kicks off its annual social justice event, Socktober! Socktober for Mission Month encourages us to engage with mission for children by using our heads to enquire about the reality of the world around us, using our hearts to feel empathy for those in situations of great need, and using our hands to take action for them in whatever way we are able. In Term 4 we will be holding a Socktober Event Day where the children will be able to kick goals for kids in need around the world. In the meantime, save your old socks for a fun class challenge (details to be advised in Term 4!) and log on to our school fundraising page to find out some more about the initiative.

LEARNING
Learning From Home vs Learning From School
Student Reflections
As St Peter’s students returned to on-site learning this week, Mr Gallery asked some students in the playground to share their thoughts on learning from home vs learning at school.
Here are their very candid responses!!
Mia | 3 Green |
At home, “Getting my work done in literally 2 hours.” At school, “Probably, I understand the work much more since I have my teachers.” |
Parsha | 3 Blue |
At home, “Getting to eat while I learn, because I’m always hungry.” At school, “It was kinda hard doing it at home so it’s a bit more easy at school because the teachers always help you.” |
Ella | 3 Green |
At home, “I could do my work in my pyjamas and be nice and comfy.” At school, “The teachers explain it more to us.” |
Jaxon | 6 Blue |
At home, “It just makes it better because I can space out when I want to do it.’ At school, “If I am stuck on something, I can always ask the teacher or one of my friends in the class for help.” |
Vilius | 6 Green |
At home, “You can do it whenever you want and it’s just more relaxing.” At School, “If you’re stuck you ask the teacher for help” |
Riley | 6 Red |
At home, “I get to space out, so if I don’t really feel like doing Writing, I can do it later” At school, “My teacher will help me if I’m stuck.” |
Baylyn | 6 Blue |
At home, “If you don't feel like doing something, you can push it back and do it later over a certain time period.” At School, “ I can see my friends again and teachers are there to explain things more whenever you need help.” |
Liam | 2 Red |
At home, “You can do your work as fast as you want and then play after.” At school, “You can play with your friends and it’s easier to do work.” |
Toby | 2 Red |
At Home, “You can play whenever you like after you finish your school work At School “You have a desk to yourself and you can see your friends again.” |
Paolo | 2 Green |
At home, “You get more time because you can go out for bike rides and you can raid the pantry for snacks.” At School, “You got your friends and you can play handball against somebody who’s not your sister.” |
As you can see, there were some very clear themes in our students’ responses, which we will take into account when planning for Term 4 learning.
Teaching teams at St Peter’s wish our community a safe and restful break.
It’s Not The End To The Term We Wanted For Sport
With Level 3 restrictions currently in play, most sporting opportunities have been cancelled. The only sports that might be played in Term 4 at this stage are the Zone Summer Sports and our St Peter’s Swimming Carnival. I just want to thank all families for all their support over Term 3. I feel for all students with the current sporting restrictions, but I especially feel for our House Captains and our 11 students who reached a Polding Team and haven’t been able to compete at state level. To make a Polding Team is exceptionally hard. The side is selected from all Catholic Primary Schools from Sydney North to the Tweed. In Postman Pete during Term 4, each of our Polding members will be showcased to highlight their outstanding sporting achievements.
New Date For Our Swimming Carnival
Due to Level 3 restrictions in place, I have moved our School Swimming Carnival to November 29, 2021.
Kindy Intensive Swimming
Kindy Intensive Swimming has been cancelled for 2021. This decision has been made due to COVID-19 restrictions and being in Level 3 restrictions where sport isn’t permitted.
Zone Summer Sports
During Term 4, Week 1, we will be asking for registrations for Zone Summer Sports. This registration is open to all Year 4 and 5 students and the sports will be:
- Basketball
- Cricket (must be playing competition cricket)
- Touch Football
- Softball
- Tennis (must be playing competition tennis)
As always, the teams will be selected firstly on each child’s PBS behaviours as this is the most important criteria when selecting sporting teams. If children have demonstrated outstanding PBS behaviours, we will secondly select on a child’s ability.
Elective Sports
Unfortunately, COVID-19 has ceased our Elective Sports Program for 2021. We were looking at options for Term 4, but given the current Level 3 restrictions, it won’t be possible. Due to only completing 2 weeks of the 5 for Elective Sports, we will be transferring your remaining Elective Sport payments into credit in your St Peter’s school account early in Term 4. If there are any questions, please contact the school office.
Two and a Half Years and $35,000.00 Later
We recently applied for a Sporting Schools Grant for Term 4, 2021. We have been fortunate to have received a $3,500.00 grant for Term 4. This takes our total grants to $35,000.00 in two and a half years. We look forward to seeing 250 students getting out and active in the given sports.
