NEW LOCKDOWN PERIOD - NEXT WEEK (Term 3, Week 7)
The new lockdown period has been extended into next week, until August 28.
Firstly, I would like to express our sincere thanks to families who have helped support our state’s current lockdown situation. We know this presents a significant challenge for many families and we appreciate your efforts to support the strong request for minimisation of attendance at school and interactions within our community.
We continue to support children of essential workers and vulnerable students attending school and hope that all of us can return to some sense of normality in the short-term. Until then, we will work together to support our health experts and leaders to facilitate the safest and best outcomes for our community.
The second week will be similar to the first week of Lockdown. We hope the following helps family planning.

Considerations moving into Lockdown - Week 7

Staff contacting families
Your child’s class teacher will attempt to make contact with families early next week by phone to check in and see how your child is progressing with Blended Learning and how your family is coping in general.
In line with usual protocol, it is recommended teachers block their number when making these calls. If you have a ‘No Caller ID’ registered on your phone early next week, it may be worthwhile emailing your child’s teacher or pmacp@lism.catholic.edu.au to check for a possible missed contact.STEM MAD - (MAKE A DIFFERENCE)

Confirmation - Thank you from Fr Paul
Recently, we celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation in our parish and it was wonderful to celebrate this Sacrament with the 120 young people and their families. I would like to congratulate all those who received the Sacrament and assure them of our ongoing prayers and support. I would also like to thank all those who have helped the children in any way shape or form. Peta Rourke, our Sacraments Co-Ordinator, our teachers, Vanessa Denham, the musicians, the commentators, the altar servers, Fr Peter, Fr Roland, Deacon Prodencio and those who assisted with the COVID check-ins and welcomed everyone. I am deeply grateful to anyone who has been a part of these wonderful celebrations.
Celebrating 200 Years of Catholic Education - Art Display
Five of our students were successful in having their artworks selected for the Diocese of Lismore 200 Years Virtual Art Display! Well done!
We Pray for Strength during this Challenging TimeDear LordWe pray for your love and compassion to abound as we walk through this challenging season. We ask for wisdom for those who bear the load of making decisions with widespread consequences. We pray for those who are suffering with sickness and all who are caring for them. We ask for protection for the elderly and vulnerable to not succumb to the risks of the virus. We pray for misinformation to be curbed that fear may take no hold in hearts and minds.
As we exercise the good sense that you in your mercy provide, may we also approach each day in faith and peace, trusting in the truth of your goodness towards us.
Amen. |
Blended Learning and Technology
This week saw the beginning of Blended Learning for students at St Peter’s and what a week it has been! One outstanding feature of both teaching and learning has been the purposeful use of technology to maintain continuity of education. Teachers have been busy providing lessons through Google Classroom, See Saw, Screencastify, Kahoot and Zoom just to name a few platforms! Students have been able to work independently and collaborate as well as get clarifications about set tasks and feedback on their learning.
The image above shows some Year 6 students on site, designing topic quizzes on Kahoot to test their peers’ knowledge. As we move into our second week of Blended Learning we look forward to continuing to make sure that our students keep their learning going.
Keep Being Active!
In these difficult times, I encourage all families to continue being active. This might be a backyard rotation of activities or a youtube fitness video you follow along with or even “Just Dance”.

eBooks and Audiobooks
Our Lismore Diocese is a part of a wider consortium, the ACEN, which includes Dioceses from as far afield as Cairns & Darwin in the north, west to Wilcannia-Forbes and south to Tasmania. Combined, these areas have huge purchasing power, which means that our students and staff have access to nearly 20,000 digital titles. I have attached a “cheat sheet” below showing how to access Sora, the preferred app for accessing eBooks and Audiobooks. All titles in the Overdrive collection have been selected by qualified Teacher Librarians, and the content available is age appropriate, according to your child’s login credentials.

Book Week 2021
“Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds”
The restrictions around visitors to our school have prompted us to rethink how we can celebrate Book Week. We will still have a display of our Short-listed books, which will be available for teachers to share with students, and hopefully we will be able to invite you to attend our dress up parade at a later date to be advised.
During Book Week (Week 7) and the preceding weeks, we are inviting you to share a photo of you and your child/ren reading a favourite book, and to complete a short blurb about the book and why you and your children love to read. Older students may like to submit a review of their book instead.
Please send in photos and your short blurb to pmacp@lism.catholic.edu.au.
We look forward to sharing your family’s reading experience.
Suggested pro forma to accompany the photo:
Child’s name:
Title of the book:
We love this book because … ( approximately 20-30 words)
Older students might like to submit a picture of the Library book cover instead with an accompanying 20-30 word review, which I will use to promote the book.
Premier's Reading Challenge
