CONFIRMATION CELEBRATED
Many of our students celebrated Confirmation with other children in the parish through this week.
We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank families for helping to make this celebration such an occasion. The reverence and respect reflected throughout the ceremony by families and candidates really helped to build a sense of occasion.
A big thank you to Father Paul, who has such a manner of connection with all who attend his celebrations. We really get to appreciate a sense of the Holy Spirit at work.
I would also like to thank Peta Rourke, Parish staff, Father Peter and Prodencio Bognay for their wonderful support and care in our children’s faith journey.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT TEAM….‘SEEING A NEED’….THE GOOD BOX!
Our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) student team, coordinated by Briody Tarbox and Kyrah Dal Santo coordinated our Winter Warmers Day, today.
Everyone rugged up in warm clothing instead of or over uniforms, donating a gold coin to the The Good Box.
Homelessness is such a sad outcome for so many and we are very fortunate that we have many good people who are sensitive to their needs and communities who recognise the need to support. (More pics in Around the School)
SRC PLANNING TO INTRODUCE NEW INNOVATIONS LATER THIS TERM
A whisper was overheard through the week that the SRC (Student Representative Council) ... pictured below in their 'Winter warmers'... are close to confirming decisions around a couple of great innovations.
Anna Harmer | Sam Carr | Peter Duffy | Eli Hudson | Luke Westman | Charley McGuigan | Rhys Evans |
Watch this space for an exciting announcement that will
be very popular among students.
‘WORN UP’
Last week we began an initiative to promote the recycling of uniforms ‘after wear.’
If you can help, please send in your old uniforms!!!
UPLOAD OLD THREADSWe want your non wearable school uniforms! St Peter’s Year 6 Environmental Leaders would like to share with St Peter’s community their new environmental initiative in conjunction with ‘Worn Up,’ recycling non-wearable school uniforms. ‘Worn Up’ aims to reduce textiles in landfills by recycling unwanted and old school uniforms. ‘Worn Up’ can make a school desk from a school dress or acoustic tiles from scraps of school uniform. Did you know that?
By UPCYCLING non-wearable uniform waste, we reduce landfill, save water, and make new Australian-made products. St Peter’s now has a ‘Worn Up’ pod situated at the canteen. What do you need to do?
We look forward to making a difference. Year 6 Environmental Leaders |
BOOK WEEK 2021
Last year, due to the Covid 19 outbreak, Book Week was postponed until Term 4. We went ahead with our parade, but it didn’t feel quite the same without our parents and families in attendance.
The restrictions around visitors to our school have prompted us to rethink how we can celebrate Book Week. We will still have a display of our Short-listed books, which will be available for teachers to share with students, and hopefully we will be able to invite you to attend our dress up parade at a later date to be advised.
During Book Week (Week 7) and the preceding weeks, we are inviting you to share a photo of you and your child/ren reading a favourite book, and to complete a short blurb about the book and why you and your children love to read. An example of a pro forma appears under the Library section. Older students may like to submit a review of their book instead. We will also be highlighting different articles promoting the many and varied benefits of reading aloud to your children.
Please send in photos and your short blurb to pmacp@lism.catholic.edu.au.’
We look really forward to sharing your family’s reading experience.
MISSION
Sacrament of Confirmation
This week many of our St Peter’s students made their Confirmation across four evening ceremonies at St Agnes’ Church. We were disappointed that Bishop Gregory was unable to join us, however, were more than blessed to have our own Fr Paul preside. Fr Paul has such a natural grace and rapport with our children and is a great storyteller, like Jesus. Each evening, he gathered the children around him on the steps in front of the altar to talk with them about the gifts they were to receive from the Holy Spirit, as well as the great gift their parents gave them in deciding to have them baptised. Thank you Fr Paul for working so beautifully with our little people, and congratulations to all our parish children who made their Confirmation.
Candidates celebrated today with a special Confirmation cake!
National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day
National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day was celebrated across the country last Wednesday. Children’s Day is a time Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities and all Australians, celebrate the strengths and culture of our children. It is an opportunity for us to show our support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, as well as learn about the crucial impact that culture, family and community play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child.
Cyber-safety - Good habits start young
Parents, carers and family members play an important and vital role in developing digital intelligence and the skills needed to successfully navigate the digital world. It is never too early to instil and encourage good habits, even for young children, and to keep reminding them of basic digital principles as they get older. Respect, empathy, critical thinking, responsible behaviour and resilience are critical behaviours and principles for all, particularly when things go wrong.
The eSafety Commissioner is a fantastic website that has resources, tips, and information for parents, educators and kids. It also has an online safety picture book and song; ‘The Swoosh, Glide and Rule Number 5’ picture book and My Family Rules song to encourage young children to be safe, be kind, ask for help and make good choices when they are online. Use them to 'start the chat' about online safety!
Below are some online safety strategies that the eSafety Commissioner recommends for parents to help educate your children safely navigate their online and digital world.
Three key strategies
Be engaged, open and supportive
- Get involved. Share online time with your children as part of family life. Play games together. Talk about favourite apps, games or websites.
- Keep lines of communication open. Ask about their online experiences, who they are talking to and whether they are having any issues.
- Reassure your child they can always come to you, no matter what. Let them know you will not cut off internet access if they report feeling uncomfortable or unsafe when online ― this is a real concern that may stop your child from communicating with you openly.
- If you notice a change in behaviour or mood, talk to your child about it. If you are concerned, consider seeking professional help ― from your GP, a psychologist or school counsellor.
Set some rules
- Set age-appropriate rules for devices and online access, with consequences for breaking them.
- Ensure your child’s input — this will help them understand risks. As they get older you can review your rules together.
- Consider creating a family tech agreement (sometimes called a family media plan or family online safety agreement). A family tech agreement is a set of rules about how devices, like smartphones, tablets, computers, TVs and gaming consoles are used in your home. It is written down and agreed to by all family members and kept in a place where everyone can see it, such as on the fridge.
- Your family tech agreement could cover the type of websites that can be visited, time spent online and acceptable online behaviour.
- eSafety has created our own version of a Family Tech Agreement, in collaboration with ABC KIDS, especially designed for families with children under 5. You can download this and fill it in with your family. Another example, from ThinkUKnow Australia, can also be a good starting point for families with older children.
- The consequences for breaking the rules should be clear. Negotiate these with your child when you create your agreement so they mean something to them — Raising Children Network has some useful tips and advice.
- Consider making some ‘rules for parents’ too — and stick to them! Model behaviour that you would like to see.
Use the available technology
- Get to know the devices you and your children use and set them up for privacy and online safety. Take advantage of parental controls to monitor and control screen time and access to content in ways appropriate to your child’s age and experience. See our guide to taming the technology.
- Choose apps and games carefully, taking age ratings and consumer advice into account. Check the App Store or Google Play, and for games, the Australian Classification Board’s online database. NetAware (UK) has a comprehensive guide to popular social media apps and games. The Australian Council on Children and the Media and Common Sense Media (US) both offer information about apps, games and websites searchable by age.

Winter Warmers Day - a great success!
In keeping with our PBS value, ‘Being Like Jesus’, we are raising money for ‘The Good Box Appeal.’ This is a wonderful initiative, which helps those living in tough conditions on the streets in Australia. During the assembly last Friday, a clip about the initiative was shared with the students.
You can access this here @ The Good Box
Today all students were invited to wear Winter Warmers to school for the day. This included warm jumpers, beanies, gloves, scarves, oodies and dressing gowns. We enjoyed seeing all of the children rugged up today and thank you all for your support of this great cause. Enjoy the pictures.

School Banking Day is Wednesday
School Banking is a fun, interactive and an engaging way to help teach your child about money.
Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.
Getting involved in School Banking is easy!
You can open a Youth Saver Account for your child in one of two ways:
- Online
Visit www.commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.
- In branch
Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, ie: driver’s licence and birth certificate.
If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit every Wednesday using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.
If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2021 School Banking program parent guide from the school office or visit www.commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
Thank you
