HAVE A WONDERFUL AND SAFE HOLIDAY
Our staff would like to wish all our families a very safe and enjoyable holiday. We hope families who have booked holidays or made plans to travel, have the chance to enjoy and go beyond their expectations. For those of us choosing to remain home, we hope some warm and dry weather characterises your ‘staycation.’
We look forward to catching up in Term 3 and sharing our holiday experiences.
PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Our staff have really appreciated the great spirit of cooperation offered through parents at this week‘s parent–teacher interviews.
It has been a wonderful opportunity to share information around the progress and achievements of students and share important developments and considerations around their future learning and well-being.
Term 3 - Week 1 Staff Development Day
Please keep in mind that the first day of school in Term 3 is a Staff Development Day. To assist our families we will be providing limited childminding.
Childminding Booking Link - bookings will close Tuesday 29th June
ST PETER’S CELEBRATION
Our school celebrated the Feast of St Peter today and engaged in a number of special events to mark the patron saint of our community.
St Peter's Feast Day Mass
What a fantastic way to end the term with families and students enjoying tabloid sports and a shared lunch together!
See more photos 'In Around the School!'
Sincere thanks to Father Peter, Rebecca Cameron, Leanne Kalchbauer, Phoebe Morris and staff for the beautiful liturgy shared by our community.
Thanks also to our Minister of Sport, Jeff Arkinstall who coordinated games for our students and was responsible for managing the staff and student team in a very competitive volleyball match against past students.

MISSION
Accendere - Switch On!:
Year 4 came together on Tuesday this week to participate in the first step of the Proclaim Lismore Student Discipleship Continuum, Accendere! Accendere means to ‘switch on’, kindle to catch fire, light to strike, to produce/spark the Flame.
The theme for the Accendere retreat program is ‘And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. If you have love for one another, then everyone will know that you are my disciples.' John 13: 34-35.
This theme relates to the Year 4 Religion Unit- ‘Living The Law of Love.’
The students spent the day strengthening their relationship with each other, God and themselves. They explored ways of showing love, strategies for being a good friend and what Jesus teaches us about being a good friend. The day was filled with fun and friendship, our tummies were filled with hot chips and icy poles, and our hearts were filled with love. We hope that now the spark of Jesus’ love has been ‘switched on’ in our Year 4 students, that they will go out and share this love with their peers, families and community!
Student Feedback:
Billy - “At Accendere we had lots of fun and I liked it. We had chips and an icy pole and made new friends.”
Keira- “At Accendere I had so much fun and I felt like I mixed and made new friends. It was so much fun!”
Jack - “We got to do fun things with people we didn’t really know.”
Grace - “ We learnt that sometimes making friends is hard and sometimes it's easy. PS My favourite part was the hot chips!”
What’s on in RE - Year 1:
Year 1 has been learning about Luke 9:12-17 - Feeding of the Five Thousand. Five thousand is a lot of people to feed. The twelve apostles wanted to send the crowd away or have them buy something themselves. But Jesus insisted on sharing the little that they had with the crowd. This was in fact giving them the gift of everything. He simply said the traditional Jewish blessing over the food and there was enough for everyone, even some to spare. The message from this story is that God will provide, if we take the risk to trust and if we give generously, even of the little we have.
Please enjoy these artistic representations of this very special Bible story by Year 1:
Feast of St Peter:
Next Tuesday is the Feast of St Peter, who has a very special place in our hearts here at St Peter’s! St Peter the Apostle was a disciple of Jesus Christ and is recognised in the early Christian church as the leader of the 12 disciples and by the Roman Catholic Church as the first pope. Peter, a Jewish fisherman, was originally known as Simon, until Jesus changed his name to Peter, which means ‘rock.’ Peter was the rock on which the early church was built.
We had a fabulous time celebrating the Feast of St Peter here at school today! It was wonderful to once again welcome our families into the school to share in our fun and learning!
Prayer for the Holidays
We thank you Lord, for this term.
For the challenges, the successes, and the mistakes from which we have learnt.
Be with us as we spend our time with family and friends.
Give us strength and courage to do what is right: to be witnesses of our faith.
Help us to be a practical Christian these holidays, to appreciate
what others do for us, to give time and effort to help others.
To be peacemakers in our family.
Keep us safe in our activities; give us good rest and good fun.
Bring us back refreshed and ready for a new term.
We thank you for our classmates, teachers, parents and
a community that cares for us.
May we always be conscious of you in our lives.
LEARNING
Write - On Competition 2021
A huge congratulations goes to Pip Eakin and Joseph Gornall who have been chosen as the St Peter’s Stage 3 and Stage 2 representatives in the NESA Write-On competition. The standard of entries was very high and well done to all students who entered the competition.
St Peter’s Writing Team has been working hard on developing programs and practices to improve student writing throughout 2021. We have seen a noticeable improvement in the standard of student writing in all year levels looking at word, sentence and text level features of writing. The Write-On competition is an excellent way of providing purpose and audience for student writing and we look forward to providing more opportunities for students to showcase their writing.

HAMLET @ The Glasshouse
Years 5 and 6 enjoyed their trip to the Glasshouse this week to see 'Hamlet - Prince of Skidmark'
Some very positive feedback was received from Year 5 ...
Before the show, I was not looking forward to a boring Hamlet to be or not to be... blah blah blah, that kind of stuff. Once I got into the theatre and they started to make jokes, I found the show to be extremely hilarious and interesting. The end was exciting but not very Shakespeare-like: however, it was a very good choice for children. I especially liked the part with the toilet paper cannon in my opinion, but others may have liked other parts better like the mist cannon, the zombie part or the poop plague. Personally, I would give it a 10/10!
Evie Hall - Year 5 Red
Clap! Clap! Clap! The audience goes wild! Hamlet is funny, action filled and exciting! Kids and grownups both loved the hilarious tale of Hamlet, Prince of Skidmark. The props they used were funny and perfectly incorporated into the show. Hamlet is a great deal of fun and is absolutely worth going to. The acting was exceptional, and the fact that there were only three actors made it even better! The audience loved it and 2 students even got to have a turn at acting in this hilarious play. The show was a success and is therefore the best play I have ever seen! I definitely recommend it for others to watch and I would certainly watch it again.
Lucia Hurdle - Year 5 Blue
I loved the glasshouse show about Hamlet and the way they adapted it to make it fun for kids and adults alike. They used their brains and came up with all sorts of weird and wacky ideas. The humour was fantastic and I loved all the jokes. Matt was hilarious with all the poo jokes and the hats and props. I liked how they used toilet paper as if it was some sort of Holy Grail.
Patrick Leman - Year 5 Red
Clap! Clap! Clap! The audience cheered as more comedy was presented. The Hamlet show was awesome because they incorporated the audience in the show and made everyone laugh. So much action in so little time. The show was 100% worth all the effort. A show that was for all ages in comedy and in fun. It was exceptional, and only 3 characters played so many parts. They invited some people from the audience which I thought was so generous and kind. The show was extravagant and it would be a pleasure to watch it again.

COVID-19 Update for schools (25 June 2021)
As outlined on Wednesday, NSW Health has advised of new COVID-19 restrictions forthe Greater Sydney region, which includes the Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Wollongong and Shellharbour local government areas from 4pm Wednesday, 23 June 2021, for one week. A map of where these restrictions apply is available on the NSW Government website.

We are Always Learning at St Peter’s
Last fortnight’s focus was ‘Being a Learner.' This is an important value, even at this later stage of the term. At our assembly last week, we were able to share a video with the school, in which students from across different grades were asked what they had learnt this term. It was wonderful to hear about the wide variety of learning in many different areas across the school from students and teachers too. At St Peter’s we believe we are lifelong learners and with our growth mindset and our flexible thinking, we are always on a learning journey.
Here are some examples from the learnings shared in the video.
- Kindergarten students shared how they had improved in counting and writing more than one sentence.
- Year 1 students can now write a very persuasive text.
- Year 2 can tell us all about the water cycle.
- Year 3 know all about erosion and weathering.
- Year 4 are Times Tables whizzes!
- Year 5 can tell us all about the impact of European Settlement on our Indigenous Peoples.
- Year 6 can craft informative texts and even calculate the area of a triangle!
- And…….Mr Leary now knows how to make delicious mashed potato with a dollop of sour cream.
We remind students to keep up their PBS values even in the holidays!
Be a Learner! Be like Jesus! Be Respectful! Be Safe!

Polding Union Trials
Congratulations to Stirling Wickham, Peter Field and James Bugler at the recent Polding Rugby Union Trials in Forbes. All three boys played really well and should be so proud of their achievements to reach this level.
We welcome our 11th member to the club
Congratulations to Stirling Wickham on being selected to the Polding Rugby Union Team. For those who have been fortunate enough to see Stirling play Union (or league this week), he is outstanding. His hardness and speed is amazing. Even playing league this week, he was awarded the player of the day from all primary students. A very humble young man who takes success in his stride. We congratulate you Stirling and we welcome you as the 11th member of the Polding Club, we are so proud of you.
Northern Final, here we come!
An awesome day at the Independent and Catholic Primary Schools Gala Day on Thursday. The team played very well and at all times displayed their PBS Values.
The scores were:
- St Peter’s 26- Wauchope 0
- St Peter’s 32- Kempsey 0
Thank you to our amazing families who came and supported the team. A special thank you to our coaches - Mr Leary, Mr Lacey and Mr Garel for your wonderful support and expertise. We are so blessed to have such amazing families and staff who support us and I have no doubt, without this support, we would not have the successes we do. Also thank you to Mrs Wickham for washing the gear, you’re amazing.
The Northern final will be held on and please note the change of date:
Now on: Thursday July 22, 2021 in Coffs Harbour. This will be a private transport event. As soon as I have more information about the event, I’ll send notes home and post information on the St Peter’s Sports Facebook page.
What a busy night on the keyboard!
Our Elective Sports online registration opened on Wednesday night just after 7pm. A huge number of families (254 families) were ready to select within the first seconds of opening. As you can appreciate when conducting elective sports, we can only have a certain amount of numbers at each venue for staffing levels and resources at each venue. We are always afraid of having an online crash due to the huge number of families at once, but the booking system worked as it was supposed to.
As per every year of elective sport, I understand that some families don’t get their child’s preferred option. I am happy to create a waiting list so that if a student or students pull out of a certain sport, I will fill that spot from the waiting list. Please send me an email stating your child’s name, year level, the sport they are booked into and what sport they would like and I will be in contact if a spot arises. My email is jeff.arkinstall@lism.catholic.edu.au
Around the Grounds
Ivy Clarke and Izabella McVerry competed at a recent Coffs Harbour Dance awards presentation.
Ivy Clarke was awarded the 10yrs/under Karla McPherson Ballet Aggregate for highest marks in Classical, Demi character and Classical Improvisation, and was also awarded the Sharon Abel Perpetual Trophy junior jazz encouragement award.
Bella McVerry was awarded the ‘Jnr Spirit of our Eisteddfod’ for her lovely behaviour, supportive to other students & politeness to the committee.
Thank you
Another term of sport is over. Thank you again to all families for your wonderful support of your child and our school. I received the below post and it is in relation to Stirling Wickham, Peter Field and James Bugler.
“These three boys performed with outstanding effort today. They were dedicated team members, displayed wonderful sportsmanship and great PBS values that the school would be extremely proud of. What a wonderful rugby experience for these young lads”.
These comments make me and the school so proud. Even 9 hrs away, these boys who were in Forbes, were still following our PBS values. As I say over and over again, we choose sporting representatives on their PBS first and their sporting skills last. I firmly believe this philosophy is one of the reasons why we are so successful on the sporting field.
