YEAR 5 ADVOCATES FOR KOALAS AND PENGUINS
A number of our Year 5 students approached me recently with a plan to raise awareness around the plight of koalas and penguins.
They then went about a process to help educate our community through a presentation at Assembly with a follow-up activity to help raise benefits to support the future well-being of koalas and penguins.
I hope you enjoy the following presentation and photos of ticket sellers in the lolly guessing competition to raise funds to support the future of these beautiful animals.
Six of the seven advocates - Patrick Leman, Harry Creighton, Callum Clancy, Andrew Slavin, Tobi Lawler, Indi Gardoll and Sam Brazel (absent).
KIDS LIT QUIZ HIGHLIGHT
Congratulations to all children who last Monday engaged in the Kids Lit Quiz National competition promoted at St Peter’s, through Mrs Michelle Lawler.
The children had a great day delving into literature and responding to associated challenges.
Please see the article below.
A huge thanks to Michelle for encouragement in this area of literature and to Fran Cullen, our librarian, who is a wonderful advocate for the written word and the very rich experiences drawn from this world.
MOS IN HIS ELEMENT
It is about this time of year, I make some mention to the outstanding contribution made by Jeff Arkinstall (Minister Of Sport).
He is like a child on his first visit to Willy Wonker’s each time a new sporting event creates an opportunity for our children to engage.
Cross country, athletics, rugby league, rugby union, hockey, gala days, touch football - and that is just this term.
Not sure where and how he musters such energy but I do know that our children benefit in so many ways. Thanks MOS.
PENANCE CONCLUDES
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our RE team, Mrs Cameron, Mrs Kalchbauer and Mrs Morris for their dedication and diligence in supporting our children and staff through the process of Penance.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Year 4 and 5 staff teams for the sensitive and meaningful way they have led the children. This is a really important time where children are encouraged to reflect about why our thoughts and actions impact others and our world and finding ways where Jesus can remain a strong inspiration in their future interactions.
MISSION
Feast of Corpus Christi this Sunday
The Feast of Corpus Christi, also known as the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, is a celebration in honour of the real presence of the body (corpus) of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.
Corpus Christi Prayer Let us pray For the willingness to make present in our world the love of Christ shown to us in the Eucharist, Lord Jesus Christ, we worship you living among us in the sacrament of your body and blood. May we offer to our Father in heaven a solemn pledge of undivided love. May we offer to our brothers and sisters a life poured out in loving service of that kingdom where you live with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen |
Reconciliation Week Prayer Service
St Peter’s commemorated National Sorry Day and celebrated Reconciliation Week with a prayer service in the Don Farrell Hall on Monday. A big thank you to all of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, as well as Aliya Morris-Boyd, our Indigenous Education Worker, for facilitating this service. It was lovely to have some of our parents and friends in to share this important commemoration.

Year 6 SES Science Incursion
Year 6 students and staff welcomed Jared, Mary and Helen from the Port Macquarie-Hastings SES to school on Monday.
We were taken on a tour of the Storm Truck and listened as the presenters shared their experiences of the recent flood and fire events.
Amazingly, our local SES conducted close to 400 rescues during the floods and attended 1200 calls for help.
We thank them for their dedication to keeping our community safe and for the time they took to share their knowledge and experience with us all.
We have some inspired young people in our group who may consider joining the cadets when they are a few years older.
FUN FACT: Jared was one of Mrs Mowle’s students here at St Peter’s in 2004.

Year 3 History Excursion
As part of Year 3 History unit, the students have been looking at Port Macquarie's local history. Year 3 had the opportunity to explore the Port Macquarie museum where they found many artifacts that were used by local families many years ago. The students took part in a role play at the Historic Courthouse where some of the students took on the roles of judge, clerk of the court, defendants and witnesses. Then lastly, they had a look around the glasshouse to discover the remains of the old cottages that were once standing on the site. It was a great day had by all and the students took the time to sketch and write up historic notes on Port Macquarie history.

Another Massive Week of Sport
One week, Athletics, Cross Country and Touch and the next week, Rugby Union, AFL, Soccer, Netball. It has certainly been a busy couple of weeks on the sporting front and I’m looking forward to the bye weekend!
Well Done Riley and Tobias
This week, we had Tobias Rowlatt and Riley Garel representing Polding at the NSWPSSA Rugby League 11 Carnival. Congratulations on an outstanding achievement.
4 Record Breakers
Congratulations to Tilly Sinclair, Tobias Rowlatt (2 records) and Noah Pociask who broke records at our recent School Athletics Carnival.
Passion, Professionalism, Care and Support, that’s Mr Post
This week, I was blessed to attend the Lismore Diocese Rugby Union Gala Day in Coffs Harbour. The lead up to the event saw Mr Post and the team sacrifice a huge amount of lunchtimes in order to be successful in Coffs.
All the hard work paid off this week as St Peter’s finished 3rd in the Diocese !!!!
The team only lost one game out of 5 games and were outstanding on and off the field.
Our sporting program, as many families know, has a very unique sporting culture. We pride ourselves on selecting students who firstly display PBS values and then skill secondly. This philosophy has been very successful at a huge number of sporting events. Today was another example with each student and their families being outstanding role models for St Peter’s.
The team was amazing on and off the field and the boys' families were also very supportive. I do love going to events and having our community together as we all represent St Peter’s.
A huge thank you to Mr Anderson for assisting with the line judging throughout the day. A special thank you to Mr Post for coaching the team. He is such a passionate, professional, caring and supportive role model for our kids. I sat back today and just listened to his words, how he managed the boys and at the same time, cared and supported the team. It was outstanding and without him, the boys wouldn’t have the success they had today.
The results were:
Pool Games
St Peter’s- 19 | St Carthages 5 |
St Peter’s- 26 | St Joesph’s Alstonville- 5 |
St Peter’s- 57 | Mary Help Of Christians- 0 |

Polding Cross Country Trials
Good luck to Preston Davis, Amaya Davis, Noah Blemith, Elysa Blemith, Blake Mitchell, William Coombes who will compete at the CSNSW Cross Country at Eastern Creek this Tuesday. CSNSW usually has a live feed, when this is released, I will post this on our Facebook Sports page for families and friends. I’m also sure races might sneak onto a few classroom IWB’s during specific race times.
Elective Sport
We are getting closer to announcing the sports for the Term 3 Elective Sport. At this stage, it will be a staged elective sport (Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3). There will be 3 elective sport days and the program will last for 5 weeks during Term 3 (Week 4- Week 8).
The sports and costs will be announced in Postman Pete, there will be an online link to register your child or children to a sport. The information will include a specific code and will mention what date and time of the online registration opening. Each sport will have a certain amount of spots, once they are full, that sport closes and you will need to select another sport for your child.
Each stage will offer school sport, Eisteddfod Dancing and 2-3 paid sports. Thank you again to the House Captains on providing sporting activity ideas.
Sporting Schools
As part of a $3200 Sporting Schools Grant, we commenced the program this week. Year 2 participated in Soccer, Year 4 participated in AFL and Year 5 participated in Netball. These programs will run for the next 3 weeks. I know in Year 4, we had so much fun learning to mark, handball and even kick a goal through the big sticks!
