KINDER INTERVIEWS - WHERE HAS THE YEAR GONE?
It is hard to fathom where the year has gone as we begin
Kindergarten interviews for 2022!
It has been a pleasure to spend time with our Kinder 2022 families this week as our new little people commenced their enrolment interviews. It’s hard to gauge who is more nervous, the little ones themselves as they are asked a bunch of questions by a very tall man (Mr Leary), or their parents, perhaps unsure of how their little ones may cope in a new and somewhat daunting environment, or even, of how they will cope, particularly if they are preparing to send their first child off to big school next year! It becomes somewhat routine for us as we welcome a new bunch of Kinders in each year, but we acknowledge the worries and fears our families experience as they begin, or continue, their association with ‘big school.’ We can assure all of our families that we walk together in this journey and are here to support, help and celebrate this very important milestone!
MISSION
Reconciliation Week
Last Wednesday was National Sorry Day, an Australia-wide opportunity to join our voices together to speak out against injustice and speak up for Reconciliation.
Sorry Day is a particularly important time to remember the injustices to people of the Stolen Generations, who were forcibly removed from their families and communities. The sadness and damage these events caused Australia’s First Peoples continues to hurt many today. Sorry Day gives people an opportunity to share the steps towards healing.
National Reconciliation Week (27 May - 3 June) follows on from Sorry Day and provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the unique culture and history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The St Peter’s community will be celebrating Reconciliation Week and acknowledging National Sorry Day in a special prayer assembly to be held on Monday morning at 8.45 in the Don Farrell Hall. Please come along and share in this celebration with us.
A Prayer of Sorrow and of Hope
Lord, for the times when we see people as not good enough,
not our friends, as different…
We are sorry
May we see ourselves in others, as people with feelings, hopes and dreams.
Help us to view them through your eyes of compassion and justice.
Lord, for the times when we listen to and do not speak out against negative words and jokes about people whose race, culture or religion differ from ours …
We are sorry
May we remember that you reveal yourself as the Messiah to us in our everyday life.
May we listen to your words and act with your guidance.
Lord, for the times when we speak unjustly about others, judging them, gossiping, and mocking them …
We are sorry
May we have the courage to speak out against injustice even when that makes us unpopular and excluded. Give us the strength to always speak your truth.
Lord, for the times when we have hardened our hearts to the poor, the homeless, those on the edge of our own community and the world community…
We are sorry
May we have the insight to see that true reconciliation comes from a change of heart. Make our hearts anew, transform them with your love so that we may answer your call to be the change in our world.
Amen.
Sacrament of Penance
A large number of Year 4 and 5 students from St Peter’s joined with children from around the parish to make their Sacrament of Penance this week, with more scheduled to reach this important milestone in their sacramental journey next week. There have been many comments from teachers praising the reverence and respect displayed by these students during the ceremonies.
A huge congratulations to all students undertaking the Sacrament of Penance in the St Agnes’ Parish. We offer you our prayers.
LEARNING
RFF (Release from Face to Face) Learning
YEAR 4
Earlier this term, Year 4 finished a unit on First Contact. The students identified and investigated the diversity and longevity of Australia's first peoples and the ways Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples are connected to Country and Place and the implications for their daily lives. Year 4 also explored Dreamtime and its importance to the Aboriginal people. Following is artwork students created using mixed media.
Students then examined the journey of at least one early explorer up to the late eighteenth century, including their contacts with other societies, battles they faced on their journey and what they discovered.
YEAR 5
In Year 5 for History, we have explored the impact that the Gold Rush had on Australia. Students enjoyed researching the Gold Rush and creating some fantastic posters!
Parent Portal
St Peter's Primary will be activating a Parent Portal as part of our Student Information System software – Schoolworx.
The Parent Portal is a secure web based application which contains information about the school and your child including school calendar, semester reports and NAPLAN results.
For families with older children in high school, (MacKillop, Regional and/or Newman Colleges) you may already have access to the Parent Portal and once St Peter's is activated you will be able to see all your children's information in the one location.
First steps for parents...
An account needs to be created as a first step. For security reasons the username for this account must be your email address recorded at the school.
Once an account has been created, parents will be able to access the Parent Portal at anytime via the link which will be available on SZapp (Install SZapp HERE) as well as the school website.
It is important that your email address is up to date. If you do not have an email address which is known to the school or you have changed your email address or provider please contact the St Peter's school office to update your details.
Instructions on how to create an account and access the Parent Portal will follow next week.

Athletics Carnival ...
What a day on the track and in the field!
We always have families who are willing to volunteer at our sporting events in order for the event to run professionally and safely. Thank you to staff who took on a wide range of positions to ensure the day was run in a professional and safe manner. A special thank you to Mr Fisher for going beyond his normal duties. Mr Fisher commenced at 6:30am with the set up, and even came back to collect all our gear in the pouring rain.
Thank you to Mr Adam Kelly from MacKillop College, who kindly offered their hall in the case of continued wet weather. To Mrs Erin Denham and Mr Noel Stevenson, thank you as always for supporting St Peter’s and having your facilities in great condition for this major carnival. We are truly blessed to have such wonderful support from MacKillop College.

I will provide draw details and arrival time as soon as it’s available.
We wish the team of Sam Brazel, Jack Lacey, Zeke Anderson, Harrison Healey, Eli Hudson, Jesse Taylor, Tait Beddoe, James Bugler, Blaze Colthorpe, Jack Hartley, Riley Nevins, Stirling Wickham, Charlie Cameron, Peter Duffy and Peter Field the very best and Go Peter’s!

Positive Behaviour Support - PBS
This fortnight our PBS Focus is on ‘Being Like Jesus’,
with an emphasis on Kindness.
We have a ‘Kindness Wall’ in a central spot in the playground.
Students are encouraged to fill out ‘Kindness Cards’, which tell us about children around the school, who have demonstrated kindness in some way. We will be celebrating these acts of kindness at our next assembly. We can’t wait to hear about the ways in which students have cared for, supported, encouraged and helped others.
